Maimonides Raises More Than $200,000 at 9th Annual Community for Kids Benefit
Brooklyn, NY, Dec. 16, 2024 – Maimonides held its annual Community for Kids benefit this year on Thursday, Dec. 5, raising more than $200,000 to benefit Maimonides Children’s Hospital and drawing more than 450 attendees, the most in the event’s history.
Maimonides is home to the only comprehensive children’s hospital and only pediatric trauma center in Brooklyn, providing 24/7 care to the more than 600,000 children who live in the borough. This year’s Community for Kids provided support for the trauma center as well as the upcoming opening of our state-of-the-art expanded pediatric emergency department in 2025. This expansion will increase our pediatric emergency room space to five times its current size.
“For 30 years, we’ve been here for the children of Brooklyn,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “In just the last five years, we’ve taken care of more than 8,000 children in the pediatric trauma center. The number-one killer of people under 18 is trauma, and children are about 25% more likely to survive trauma when treated at a dedicated pediatric trauma center. As Brooklyn continues to grow, our pediatric emergency department expansion will be vital, and we are grateful to our supporters for their partnership in our commitment to Brooklyn’s children.”
The event honored Camille & Stefano Filippazzo on behalf of the Anthony J. Filippazzo Fund for Williams Syndrome Research & Advancement, Michael Brincat, Director of Special Events and Corporate Partnerships at Maimonides Health, and Nick Iacoviello of MVS Heating and Air Conditioning Corp. for their leadership and contributions to the Children’s Hospital’s mission.
