(JNS) Lebanon’s Hezbollah terrorist group fired rocket barrages at central and northern Israel on Sunday, wounding at least eight people, damaging structures and sending hundreds of thousands running for shelters.
The Iranian-backed terrorist army fired some 240 projectiles across the border throughout the day, marking one of the most intense days since the start of the war.
Two men in their 60s were wounded by shrapnel in the Upper Galilee on Sunday afternoon, one severely and one moderately to severely, according to the Magen David Adom emergency medical service.
Also in the afternoon, Hezbollah fired eight rockets at central Israel, most of which were intercepted, according to the Israel Defense Forces. The launches triggered sirens in north Tel Aviv, Petach Tikvah, Herzliya, Rosh Ha’ayin, Ra’anana and the surrounding areas, the military said.
One impact was reported in Petach Tikvah, east of Tel Aviv, with video showing a vehicle on fire and damage to a house. Heavy damage was also reported in Moshav Rinatya, southeast of Petach Tikvah.
MDA treated a 70-year-old woman for smoke inhalation and evacuated her to Petach Tikvah’s Beilinson Hospital. A 23-year-old man sustained minor injuries from the blast in the city, and several other people suffered minor injuries on their way to bomb shelters, per MDA.
Hezbollah also fired some 30 terror rockets towards Haifa, Nahariya and surrounding areas, hitting buildings in both cities. MDA said that EMTs and paramedics treated two men, both in their 50s, for shrapnel wounds before evacuating them to Haifa’s Bnei Zion and Rambam hospitals.
Earlier in the day, a 51-year-old woman sustained shrapnel wounds when a Hezbollah rocket hit a factory in Ma’alot-Tarshiha in the Western Galilee. The rocket, one of 30 in the barrage, caused vast damage to the building. MDA evacuated her to Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya.
A man in his 60s sustained moderate injuries while making his way to a shelter during the same attack, according to Israel’s Channel 12 News.
Shortly afterward, a 25-rocket barrage was launched at the Upper Galilee, with some of the projectiles being intercepted and others impacting in open territory, according to the Israeli military.
Air-raid sirens were also activated three times in the largely evacuated Israeli border town of Metula on Sunday morning.
At approximately 7:30 a.m., the Iranian terror proxy launched six rockets at Israel‘s central region, according to the IDF. Five of the projectiles were intercepted, and one fell in open territory, the military said.
The attack triggered sirens in the Dan, Sharon and Menashe regions, including in the seaside cities of Netanya and Herzliya, north of Tel Aviv. No injuries were reported in the attack, according to MDA.
Red alerts were also heard in Kiryat Shmona and Moshav Margaliot near the border with Lebanon on Sunday morning, as well as in Safed and the surrounding area. Israel’s Channel 12 News reported that two rockets had been fired at Safed, with no injuries or damages reported.
Sirens continued to sound in northern Israel into Sunday night, warning of renewed Hezbollah rocket attacks on Haifa, Acre and Nahariya, as well as the central region, including Tel Aviv, and northern Samaria.
No Israelis were reported injured in the rocket attacks. Some of the rockets were intercepted, while others struck open areas, the IDF said. One rocket from Lebanon hit the Palestinian city of Tulkarem in western Samaria, lightly wounding several women there.
Hezbollah has launched some 16,000 rockets, missiles and drones at Israel since joining the war in support of Hamas on Oct. 8, 2023, a day after the Gaza-based terror organization’s massacre in southern Israel.
More than 60,000 residents of northern Israel remain internally displaced due to the ongoing attacks from the Land of the Cedars. The cross-border attacks have killed 76 people in Israel, including 31 IDF soldiers and six foreign nationals, and have wounded 729 more, 66 of them seriously.
