(TJV) A 46-year-old Duluth, MN man, Anthony Nephew, reportedly took the lives of his wife, ex-partner, and two children before turning the gun on himself just days after the election of Donald Trump in November.
Authorities stated that Nephew, who had frequently expressed anti-Trump sentiments on social media, had a “pattern of mental health issues.”
On Thursday, police found Nephew’s ex-partner Erin Abramson, 47, and their son, Jacob, 15, fatally shot in their home. Soon after, they discovered his current wife, Kathryn Nephew, 45, and their 7-year-old son, Oliver, dead in a nearby residence.
Police noted that Anthony Nephew’s recent social media posts, filled with anti-Trump rhetoric, often criticized Republican policies and condemned right-wing figures. In one post, he cited fears of “religious zealots” and described intrusive thoughts fueled by fear and mental health struggles. He often referenced dystopian imagery, including Gilead from The Handmaid’s Tale, suggesting anxiety over Republican efforts to limit personal freedoms.
He shared other political posts, including photos of former president Barack Obama, President Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. The ‘hate’ word corresponded with Trump’s face, whereas words like “heal”, “hope” and “grow” corresponded with Democratic allies.

In an op-ed for the Duluth News Tribune in 2021, Nephew revealed his battles with mental health, warning that without better support, breakdowns could lead to tragedies like homicide or suicide. He argued that the U.S. fails those in crisis, ignoring or stigmatizing mental health.
“Democrats’ political lies are now literally breeding mental illness”
The most obvious case is Anthony Nephew, the Minnesota man who apparently killed his wife, ex-partner and his two sons before taking his own life in reaction to Donald Trump’s victory.
