Youngest Orthodox Judge Malia Reichmann Gets Sworn into Edison Township

32-year-old Malia Reichmann was sworn in at 3 PM on Monday September 30th to the Edison Municipal Court House at 100 Municipal Boulevard in New Jersey. As one of the youngest judges in New Jersey history Malia’s legal trajectory began when she was 3 years old and her mother, Miriam Weiss, brought her on stage upon collecting her NYU Law degree. As the stunned audience gasped, little Malia stood grinning from ear to ear as it was clear legalese was her specialty. As the oldest daughter of two prominent Real Estate developers, Miriam and Robert Weiss of Weiss Properties, Malia has served as General Counsel of the family office for more than 5 years assisting with acquisitions, closings and dealmaking. Her meticulous attention to detail has led veteran lawyers to gasp with disbelief as this young Columbia Law graduate never ceases to amaze. She is married  to Tzvi Reichmann , a scion of the Reichmann family. In-laws Efraim and Chani Reichmann flew in from Toronto for the day to watch their daughter-in-law accept her honor with grace and humility.

Mayor Sam Joshi of the Edison Township remarked that while competition was fierce for the position he felt Malia was the most qualified due to her keen intellect, love for the Edison community, and flawless background. Judge Dipti Dedhia, who has been training Malia for the past month, remarked that Malia was one of the most perspicacious mentees she has encountered. Superior Court Judge Mark Epstein agreed with that sentiment as he swore in a beaming Malia as her proud grandparents Roz and Norton Nesis looked on. Norton, a medical doctor and real estate owner who descends from the prominent Twersky family, was overwhelmed with emotion as he visualized his illustrious grandfather looking down at his Orthodox Jewish granddaughter’s swearing in. Malia said she would be looking forward to “blending her legal expertise with her dedication to the community along with her strong moral code guided by religion, with her hair covered, and an upbringing rooted in empathy and kindness.” Cognizant of her great responsibility Reichmann remarked that this was her “opportunity to make a strong Kiddush Hashem and inspire young Jewish girls discovering their purpose and path”.

As the valedictorian at Yeshiva University and a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar at Columbia Law Malia’s academic achievements are only surpassed by her charity work-including visiting the sick and elderly on a weekly basis. Her two handsome brothers Mordechai and Shaje Weiss, successful lawyers on their own, handed Malia her certificates as Part Two took place at The Bridge Restaurant in Highland Park, where a delicious meat and veggie meal was served as hundreds gathered to listen to speeches and fraternize with local community members. Senator Bob Smith noted that Malia had a long career ahead which might include a Superior Court judgeship if things go as planned. As Malia thanked attendees for helping to shape her personage a cake with a gavel inscription was brought out as guests sang Happy Birthday to a woman who has only begun carving her place in New Jersey history-ultimately forging further opportunities for future fearless, frum females.
