Looking to live high above the Manhattan skyline? Penthouse 80 atop Sutton Tower, the tallest residential building on Manhattan’s East Side, is now on the market for a jaw-dropping $65 million, The New York Post reports. This luxurious duplex offers the ultimate in height and exclusivity, boasting the highest residential address in the neighborhood and the largest, priciest condo listing in the area this year.

Spanning the entire 80th and 81st floors, Penthouse 80 sits at approximately 800 feet above the street. The space offers nearly 9,200 square feet of interior living space, along with a 166-square-foot south-facing loggia—a semi-enclosed outdoor retreat with expansive city views. Elizabeth Unger, senior sales director of Sutton Tower, highlighted the penthouse’s breathtaking panorama, telling The New York Post, “You step out and see to the New York Harbor and all the wonderful iconic landmarks in between.”

The penthouse offers a unique vantage point, with Unger adding, “I can see all the way from the Atlantic Ocean to the Hudson. I can see the mountains of New Jersey and the city skyline from the Empire State Building to the Freedom Tower.” At this altitude, the unit soars above nearby residential towers, offering residents unimpeded, protected views.

Developed by JVP Development and Gamma Real Estate, Sutton Tower overcame neighborhood resistance to its height, including zoning challenges. “No one has developed here in 45 years — at least no one had done a tower,” Van Nguyen, a partner at JVP Development, told The New York Post. Describing the area’s history, Nguyen noted that Sutton Place transformed from a tenement district in the 1920s, thanks to socialites like Anne Harriman Vanderbilt and Anne Morgan. “We wanted to respect that and do it at a level of quality,” Nguyen said. He emphasized that the effort to protect views and zoning stability makes this development particularly attractive to buyers.

Sutton Tower rises 850 feet, clad in glass and carved Bavarian limestone, and is the first skyscraper by renowned Danish designer Thomas Juul-Hansen. His portfolio includes high-end projects like One57 on Billionaires’ Row, and he’s known for adding a touch of luxury to his designs. “There’s a timelessness to his design,” said Nguyen, praising Juul-Hansen’s work on the Sutton Tower units. The New York Post notes that each unit comes move-in ready, offering a seamless blend of style and function.

Inside Penthouse 80, soaring 15-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light. The five-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom home features a 54-foot-long great room overlooking the East River, which can function as both a grand entertainment space and a cozy family room, complete with a gas fireplace. Adjacent is a wine room with space for 700 bottles and a wet bar, perfect for hosting gatherings. The professional-grade kitchen includes two dishwashers, three ovens, a butler’s pantry, and custom cabinetry.

The primary bedroom suite is designed for luxury, with two dressing areas and dual bathrooms—one featuring a steam shower and a soaking tub. Residents also have access to the Sutton Club, spanning five floors and offering amenities like a swimming pool, fitness center, boxing studio, and a screening room. Beyond the building’s offerings, Sutton Tower’s location provides a traditional New York neighborhood feel, surrounded by mom-and-pop shops and just a block from the waterfront.
