(TJV) The man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump left behind a handwritten letter urging others to “finish the job,” according to court documents filed by prosecutors on Monday.
Ryan Routh, facing two gun charges after allegedly trying to assassinate Trump on September 15 at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, reportedly wrote a note offering $150,000 to anyone who could “complete” the task. A witness told law enforcement that Routh had left a box at his residence several months before the assassination attempt containing letters, ammunition, a metal pipe, various building materials, tools, and four phones, according to court records.

In his letter, Routh expressed regret for failing in his mission, writing, “Dear World, this was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I am so sorry I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster.” He continued, stating that Trump is “unfit to be anything, much less a US president,” and criticized Trump’s foreign policy, claiming he “ended relations with Iran like a child, and now the Middle East has unraveled.”

The witness only opened the box after hearing about the assassination attempt on September 15, according to the court filing.
During a search of Routh’s car, law enforcement officers found a list of handwritten dates and locations where Trump had appeared or was expected to appear between August and October. It was also discovered that Routh’s cell phone had accessed towers near Mar-a-Lago and Trump International multiple times between August 18 and September 15, further linking him to the assassination attempt.
