Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital’s cardiac progressive care unit earned the prestigious Gold-Level Beacon Award of Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) for employing evidence-based practices aimed at enhancing patient outcomes. The nursing team earned the association’s highest honor: a three-year gold-level designation, for surpassing rigorous performance benchmarks and implementing effective policies, procedures and processes that ensure top-notch health outcomes, prioritize patient care and foster strong staff engagement.
“The AACN’s Beacon Award of Excellence is a powerful testament to our nursing team’s unwavering commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care,” said Kevin Browne, DNP, RN, CNS, CCRN, chief nursing officer of Lenox Hill Hospital. “This recognition reflects not only our dedication to the highest standards of care but also the resilience and collaborative spirit of our nurses, who continually raise the bar to ensure every patient feels supported and valued.”
The gold designation also highlights the unit’s success in developing a positive and supportive work environment, which is strongly correlated with improved patient outcomes. Nurses who work at organizations that meet AACN’s national standards for excellence, consistently report higher levels of productive staff collaboration, morale, and retention, leading to enhanced care delivery and patient satisfaction.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the nurses in our cardiac progressive care unit for this well-deserved award, a true reflection to their commitment to patient care,” said Daniel Baker, MD, executive director of Lenox Hill Hospital. “This designation underscores Lenox Hill’s dedication to delivering unparalleled nursing care and advancing healthcare standards.”
Lenox Hill’s commitment to excellence in nursing care is further demonstrated through its numerous accolades and designations. The hospital’s coronary care unit was also honored with a Beacon Award last year for exceptional patient outcomes. The medical facility is among the top 9 percent of U.S. organizations to hold the coveted American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet® designation, which recognizes dedication to exemplary nursing standards. It’s also designated by NICHE, a nursing education program, which enhances geriatric care by equipping nurses to address the unique needs of older adults. In addition, the hospital’s emergency department received the Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association, highlighting the unit’s exceptional nursing leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research.
