The widow of Hamptons real estate mogul Brandon Miller was sued last week by an Upper East Side landlord for unpaid rent on their Park Avenue apartment. As reported by the NY Post, Mak Acquisitions filed a lawsuit against Candice Miller on September 12 in a bid to recover close to $195,000 in rent that was allegedly unpaid, as per the legal complaint. The suit, filed in state court, claims the new widow owes rent between April and July, for the posh apartment which costs $49,000-per-month, after being upped in June from $47,000.
In early July, Brandon Miller, the 43-year-old developer was tragically found dead in his car in the garage of his Hamptons mansion. Miller had reportedly been hospitalized, in the intensive care unit at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, days prior to his death.
There was no confirmed cause of death. It was later reported that he owed a great deal of debt and sadly he may have taken his own life. He was the principal at Real Estate Equity Corporation, and owed close to $34 million. Despite their seemingly luxurious lifestyle, he had just $8,000 in his bank account, TheRealDeal previously reported. He reportedly died holding on to a picture of himself with his family. He also reportedly left a note for his wife, expressing his love for her and their children, per Page Six.
The couple have two young children. The widow, Candice, is social media influencer and the founder of lifestyle and mommy blog Mama & Tata. She is also a familiar face on the Hamptons social scene. Mrs. Miller has agreed to vacate the five-bedroom apartment at 737 Park Ave. at the end of August. She only owes $2,000 for that month because Mak Acquisitions kept her security deposit, per the lawsuit. Overall, the suit alleges she owes $194,881 in back rent. Last month, Candice moved to a Miami condo with her two daughters, Page Six reported at the time.
Mrs. Miller also put her mansion in Long Island up for sale, with an asking price of $15,495,000 million. The seven bedroom and eight-bathroom home in Water Mill, built in 2013, is listed with Bespoke Real Estate. The nearly 8,000-square-foot property spans over 1.12 acres and includes a pool house, state-of-the-art amenities, two laundry rooms, an outdoor kitchen, five fireplaces, a heated gunite pool with sundeck attached spa and more. “Upon entering, you are greeted by a grand double-height foyer featuring elegant shiplap interiors and custom millwork throughout,” the listing reads. “The residence is complete with high-end finishes such as rustic wide plank flooring, exposed wood beams, and quartz countertops. The home’s seamless blend of modern and classic design elements ensures timeless appeal.” The couple also owns a $9 million house in Tribeca, the Daily Mail reported.
Lawyers for Candice Miller and Mak Acquisitions did not immediately the Post’s request for comment late Monday. Candice previously broke her silence about her husband’s death last month. “Candice is devastated by the loss of her soul mate, and her two young daughters’ lives are forever impacted by the loss of their beloved daddy,” she told the New York Times via a family spokesperson.
