(TJV) According to Fox News, former President Trump’s campaign confirmed on Saturday that some of its internal communications were compromised by hackers. The acknowledgment came after liberal media outlet Politico contacted the campaign, claiming to have received internal documents from Trump’s team.

Steven Cheung, the Trump campaign’s communications director, stated, “These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our Democratic process.” He linked the breach to a recent report from Microsoft, which revealed that Iranian hackers had accessed the account of a “high ranking official” in a U.S. presidential campaign in June 2024. This timing coincided closely with President Trump’s selection of a Vice Presidential nominee.

Cheung further suggested that the alleged Iranian hack occurred after reports surfaced of an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump, mentioning the tragic event in Butler, PA. He asserted, “The Iranians know that President Trump will stop their reign of terror just like he did in his first four years in the White House. Any media or news outlet reprinting documents or internal communications are doing the bidding of America’s enemies and doing exactly what they want.”

Politico reported receiving a 271-page dossier from the Trump campaign, which included a detailed analysis of Senator JD Vance, R-Ohio, who was later chosen as Trump’s running mate. The dossier, dating back to February, contained information on Vance’s past positions, statements, and criticisms of Trump, categorized under “POTENTIAL VULNERABILITIES.”

The Trump campaign did not confirm whether they had contacted law enforcement about the breach. It remains unclear if Politico has used any of the hacked materials in its reporting. Fox News Digital reached out to Politico for comment, but as of now, there has been no response.

Politico reportedly began receiving emails from an anonymous source identified as “Robert” on July 22, just days after the Republican National Convention concluded and Trump announced Vance as his Vice Presidential pick. When asked how he obtained the documents, “Robert” allegedly replied, “I suggest you don’t be curious about where I got them from,” warning that any further inquiry could legally compromise both the source and the outlet.

In addition to the dossier on Vance, “Robert” also provided documents related to Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fla., another potential Vice Presidential candidate, and claimed to have access to various internal campaign discussions and legal documents.

This incident echoes the infamous hacking of the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton’s campaign during the 2016 election, which was attributed to Russia, with some of the documents being released by WikiLeaks.
