The report in The Forward recalled that Benjamin Disraeli, who served as a Conservative Prime Minister during Queen Victoria’s reign, was the son of Jewish parents. Disraeli’s father, Isaac D’Israeli, left their synagogue and had his children baptized into the Church of England in 1817, allowing Disraeli to pursue a political career at a time when Jews were excluded from Parliament. The Forward also noted that despite his conversion, Disraeli acknowledged his Jewish heritage and often portrayed Jews as a superior race.
