One egregious example occurred in 2018 when NBC News erroneously reported that Trump had failed to visit US troops overseas during the Christmas holiday. Contrary to their claims, Trump and First Lady Melania embarked on a surprise visit to Iraq, where they personally met with American soldiers stationed abroad. CNN faced criticism for its misleading coverage of Trump’s inauguration, falsely attributing negative remarks to Nancy Sinatra regarding the use of her father’s song. Sinatra herself refuted CNN’s claims, exposing the media’s penchant for spreading misinformation to fit predetermined narratives.
