In a recent televised statement, Abu Obeida, a spokesperson for the Palestinian terror group Hamas, declared that many of the Israeli hostages kidnapped by the organization have likely been killed in recent Israeli retaliatory strikes on Gaza. According to a report in the New York Post, Obeida, who serves as the mouthpiece for Hamas, mentioned that the group has lost track of those abducted, and the fate of many hostages has become unknown due to what he described as Zionist aggression.

According to Obeida’s statement, the uncertainty surrounding the fate of the hostages has increased in recent weeks, with a likelihood that many of them were killed. The report in the Post said that he emphasized that the rest of the hostages are in great danger every hour, putting the responsibility on the Israeli enemy’s leadership and army.

Obeida claimed that Hamas has been informed by several parties in the resistance fronts that they plan to expand their strikes on the Israeli enemy in the coming days, as was noted in the Post report. This announcement adds a layer of complexity to the already intense conflict between Israel and Hamas, marking the 100th day of Israel’s battle for its existential survival.

The current conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, triggered by a massacre perpetrated by Hamas terrorists in southern Israel. The attack resulted in the brutal slaughter of 1,200 people, including civilians, and the kidnapping of around 240 others, the Post report said. During the surprise Hamas attack that occurred on the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, Hamas shot people, execution style, savagely raped women, burned people alive and beheaded babies. This event set the stage for a protracted war between Hamas fighters and Israeli forces.

Hamas is believed to still have approximately 132 hostages in captivity. The Post report indicated that despite Israel’s commitment to retrieving them, with mounting protests from their families, only one hostage has been rescued by Israeli forces so far. During a weeklong cease-fire in November, more than 100 hostages were released in exchange for 240 Palestinians imprisoned by Israel. However, Hamas has declared that they will not release more hostages until the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) ends its offensive.

The families of the remaining hostages have been actively protesting, with a 24-hour rally in Tel Aviv drawing tens of thousands of supporters.

Hamas’ statement on the uncertain fate of Israeli hostages and the claim of expanded strikes by resistance fronts signal ongoing challenges in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The situation remains highly sensitive, with humanitarian concerns, political dynamics, and the search for a resolution continuing to shape the complex narrative of the 100-day-long conflict.
