Tomer Singer, M.D. FACOG, MBA, a distinguished fertility specialist, has been named chief of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Northwell Health. Dr. Singer will spearhead efforts to make reproductive services more accessible and affordable to a diverse group of patients and aims to expand several critical programs, such as egg freezing, egg donation and gestational surrogacy. Additionally, he will partner closely with various clinical programs, including medical endocrinology, high-risk obstetrics, minimally invasive gynecology, and family planning, as well as with the Northwell Health Cancer Institute, one of the largest oncology programs in New York State, to ensure patients receive comprehensive fertility care as part of their treatment.

Northwell Health Fertility offers world class diagnostic services and treatments to patients across six offices in New York City, Long Island and Westchester. Patients include those who are facing both female and male infertility, women with endometriosis and fibroids, single parents, and same-sex couples. The patient-centered care at Northwell utilizes the latest assisted reproductive technologies including state-of-the-art IVF labs, incubators and embryoscopes for fertility preservation, in vitro fertilization, intrauterine insemination, surrogacy, egg and sperm donation and egg freezing and banking. Since its inception in 1986, Northwell Health Fertility has had an extraordinary 25,000+ live births, a testament to the health system’s continual commitment to reproductive health care.

The fertility program is comprised of a growing team of 11 reproductive endocrinologists and infertility specialists, six clinical reproductive endocrinologist fellows, over 20 embryologists and andrologists, and seven nurse practitioners across several fertility specialties. The program provides a comprehensive work up, including pelvic and saline sonograms, genetic testing, uterine cavity, tubal patency and ovarian reserve testing as well as semen analysis and advanced andrology services for couples with male infertility. A unique collaboration with Northwell Health’s LGBTQIA+ specialists will allow for rapid expansion and access to fertility care for this patient population.

Prior to his appointment as the chief of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Dr. Singer held progressively senior roles at Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital. Since 2005, he has served as the founder and director of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, vice chair of education, and the residency program director of the OB/GYN department. Additionally, Dr. Singer served as the director of the egg freezing program at Northwell Health Fertility from 2014 to 2019. During that period the program thrived, performing hundreds of cases per year.

Motivated to help aspiring OB/GYN and fertility professionals, Dr. Singer holds several educational positions. He is an OB/GYN associate professor at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He also trains many postgraduate students and medical endocrinology fellows at Lenox Hill Hospital, and residents and fellows at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Celebrated for his dedication to and expertise in the field of fertility, Dr. Singer is the recipient of multiple illustrious awards, including the Castle Connolly Top Doctor Award, which he has won every year since 2017. He has also received several coveted educational awards, including the APGO Excellence in Teaching Award and the CREOG National Teacher Award. He is a member of various prestigious organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

Dr. Singer has contributed to vital infertility research, leading studies into preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) of embryos and postpartum depression rates in IVF patients. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications investigating carriers of genetic disorders, in-vitro fertilization, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) testing, ovarian reserve testing and the effects of progestin therapy on fertility in cancer patients. In addition, Dr. Singer has delivered oral and poster presentations at over 80 industry meetings across the country discussing a wide variety of topics, including how certain hormones correlate with embryo morphology in IVF cycles and fertility preservation in women undergoing treatment for breast cancer. He has also been invited to present at grand rounds across the world, including Argentina, Russia, Israel, and Taiwan.

The esteemed doctor cites his parents’ struggle with fertility as his inspiration for pursuing a career in reproductive medicine. He was conceived through assisted reproductive technology after his father was left paralyzed from the neck down due to trauma while serving in the army. Today, Dr. Singer himself is a proud father.

After receiving both his bachelor and medical degrees at the Sackler School of Medicine, Dr. Singer pursued a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he served as chief resident. He then went on to complete a three-year fellowship at the Center for Reproductive Medicine and Infertility at Weill Cornell Medical College where he received specialized training in PGT. He also earned an MBA in health care management at Hofstra Zarb School of Business. Dr. Singer is double board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
