IDF Maps for Demolition Homes of Terrorist who Killed Meir Tamari

By: JNS.org

Israeli forces overnight Monday mapped for demolition the home of a Palestinian terrorist in the Jenin refugee camp.

Ahmed Barakat is one of the terrorists responsible for the fatal shooting of Meir Tamari near the community of Hermesh in northwestern Samaria on May 30.

During the operation, Israeli forces arrested two suspects in the camp, where soldiers exchanged fire with Palestinian terrorists, who also threw explosives at them. The military said one of the terrorists was hit, but provided no additional information.

Tamari, a 32-year-old father of two young children, sustained a bullet wound to the upper body in the attack. He was evacuated by helicopter to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, where he was pronounced dead.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the murder.

(Usually affiliated with Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah faction, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades is a generic name for Palestinian terrorist squads, most of which operate independently, according to the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center.)

“I send heartfelt condolences to the family of Meir Tamari, who was murdered today in a shooting attack near his home community. May God avenge him,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the time.

“Our forces are currently in pursuit of the terrorists in order to settle accounts with them, and they will be settled forthwith. Just as we have found every terrorist and closed accounts with them, we will do so this time as well,” he added.

Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, said that the IDF checkpoint where the shooting occurred was not active and thus no Israeli soldiers were present.

“This is a reality where the security checkpoints do not exist and the terrorist can go freely and return freely, and five minutes after he was shooting he is drinking coffee in his house in the village. It costs us in blood,” said Dagan after the attack, demanding that Israel launch an offensive to root out the terrorism in Judea and Samaria.

Also overnight Monday, IDF soldiers detained two wanted Palestinians in Qalandiya, where a riot broke out.

The military responded with riot dispersal means and “hits were identified.” According to the P.A. Health Ministry, a 25-year-old Palestinian man was killed.

In another operation, the IDF shut down two printing houses in Al-Dawha, southwest of Bethlehem, producing inciting materials for Hamas.

No Israeli forces were injured in the overnight operations, during which 21 Palestinian terror suspects were detained.

Israeli forces have arrested more than 2,000 Palestinian terror suspects in Judea and Samaria.

In other Israel related news, JNS also reported on Tuesday that more than 260,000 Israelis have applied for gun permits in the past six weeks, according to Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Speaking on Monday at a faction meeting of his Otzma Yehudit Party, Ben-Gvir said the applicants were normal people who simply wanted to protect themselves and their families.

“My policy within the office is to allow as many people as possible to receive weapons, and as [to bring in] many people as possible to handle their applications,” he said. “In a very short period, the Firearms Licensing Dept. did a great job. If permits were once given to only a hundred people a day, we have increased to 1,500 and 1,800, and the hand is still outstretched,” he said.
