Two women are now facing hate crime charges after allegedly assaulting a Jewish woman who confronted them on the Upper West Side for tearing down posters of Israelis kidnapped by Hamas, as reported by the police on Monday, NY Post reported.

Mehwish Omer, 26, surrendered to the police and was charged with assault and criminal mischief, both as hate crimes, in connection to the attack that occurred on November 9. The victim, a 41-year-old woman, was attacked at the corner of Riverside Drive and West 82nd Street. Omer’s alleged accomplice, Stephanie Gonzalez, 25, was arrested a week earlier and faces a hate crime assault charge along with an attempted robbery charge.

The incident unfolded when the victim confronted Omer and Gonzalez for tearing down “Missing Persons” posters from a light pole. The altercation escalated, with the attackers allegedly ripping off the victim’s Star of David necklace and knocking her cellphone out of her hand. The victim recorded the encounter on her cellphone, the NY Post explained.

Following the assault, the suspects fled the scene, leaving the victim with minor injuries to her face and neck. She declined medical attention, and her phone was damaged. Both Omer and Gonzalez, who have no prior arrests, are now facing legal consequences for the alleged hate crime.

During Omer’s arraignment at Manhattan Criminal Court, her lawyer, Lee Koch, suggested that an exchange of words may have triggered the altercation. Meanwhile, Mayor Eric Adams condemned such incidents, describing them as a “deeply misguided act of disrespect to victims of terrorism” and emphasizing that hate has no place in New York City.

This assault is part of a disturbing trend of antisemitic acts targeting posters related to the Hamas attack on the Jewish state on October 7. Other instances include individuals caught tearing down posters, such as Charlotte Wimer and Gray Segal, both 18, who were arrested for ripping down posters in Gramercy Park. Additional cases involve an NYU student who lost a job offer, a Brooklyn man arrested after a scuffle caught on video, and a public defender who retained her job after apologizing for her actions. The incidents highlight a broader issue of vandalism and disrespect toward these displays in the city.

Since the October 7th terror attack in Israel, NYC has returned to a state of constant left wing protests, similar to the halcyon days of former Mayor de Blasio’s “summer of love”. Instead of BLM slogans, the screeching throngs of assorted, college Marxists, left wing moonbats and other crazies are shouting about Palestine, and intimidating Jews; in addition to the usual tactics of blocking roads, bridges and defacing and damaging statues, public landmarks and private businesses; all done typically without protest permits from the city.

The “free Palestine” movement is the latest fad in virtue signaling with followers protesting something they know basically nothing about; mixed in with hardened Jew haters and terrorist sympathizers.

Palestinian flag waving Marxists are  essentially declaring the Jewish religion to be terrorism. “Zionism” has replaced “Jews” and “Judaism”, but the message is the same as the out in the open Nazis you sometimes encounter in Florida. “Goyim Defense League” has a lot in common with the “free Palestine” movement.
