(TJV) Former Pink Floyd co-founder and frontman, Roger Waters, has been accused of engaging in antisemitic behavior, according to allegations made by the London-based organization Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA). In their documentary titled “The Dark Side of Roger Waters,” disturbing emails and interviews have come to light, revealing a series of troubling incidents involving Waters.

One of the most egregious accusations involves an email in which Waters allegedly proposed writing derogatory slurs on the inflatable pig that was a regular fixture at his concerts. In the email, he suggested adorning the pig with symbols like swastikas, Stars of David, and dollar signs. This email, dated March 25, 2010, was part of the evidence presented by CAA.

Waters had already faced controversy in the past, including being banned from speaking at the University of Pennsylvania due to allegations of antisemitism stemming from his wearing of a Nazi-inspired uniform and the use of Nazi imagery during a Berlin concert.

Additionally, former collaborators of Waters, including saxophonist Norbert Statchel and Pink Floyd’s producer Bob Ezrin, have come forward with their own accounts of his alleged antisemitic behavior. Statchel recalled a disturbing incident at a restaurant where Waters became irate over vegetarian food, demanding that the waiters remove what he referred to as “Jew food.” This incident left Statchel feeling uncomfortable and shocked.

Ezrin, who had worked closely with Waters, recounted an impromptu song in which Waters referred to someone as a “f–king Jew.” This incident raised concerns about potential antisemitism within Waters.

Campaign Against Antisemitism’s Chief Executive, Gideon Falter, issued a statement, emphasizing that Waters has repeatedly used his platform to target Jews while denying being antisemitic. The release of the documentary, “The Dark Side of Roger Waters,” aimed to bring this evidence to the public’s attention, allowing them to draw their own conclusions about Waters’ actions.

Waters has also faced criticism for his choice of attire during a concert in Berlin, where he donned a costume reminiscent of Nazi symbolism. While he defended this choice as a protest against fascism, it sparked outrage online, with the US State Department noting that Waters had a history of using antisemitic tropes and that his concert imagery offended the Jewish community and minimized the Holocaust.

In response to the controversy, Waters maintained that his actions were driven by a commitment to opposing fascism, injustice, and bigotry. He believed that his detractors sought to discredit and silence him due to his political views and moral principles.
