There is no industry on the planet that loves itself more than Hollywood, but a close second is journalism. It’s fitting since both industries are riddled with some of the worst human beings to ever consume oxygen. But while Hollywood loves itself more, journalism is more damaging to the country. Sure, cultural rot is destructive, but an honest media would report on it and prevent a considerable amount of it. We do not have an honest media.
How bad is the media today? It doesn’t take much to see how bad things have gotten when NBC News employs racists like Joy Reid and gives $30 million per year to a crackpot conspiracy theorist like Rachel Maddow. This is NBC News, not the National Enquirer or The Final Call.
To put a fine point on just how bad all of media has gotten, Maddow got her $30 million per year deal to work one day per week because NBC News was terrified she’d be poached by another “news” organization. They made her the highest paid on-air person at MSNBC (and probably all of NBC News) to barely do anything because other outlets wanted her selective, out-of-context quotes and heavily edited video clips woven together into a mesh of paranoia, lies and straight-up bovine excrement. She wins awards for lying to her audience, and NBC News cares about that as much as the New York Times cares about the truth behind Walter Duranty’s 1932 Pulitzer.
How bad has it gotten? Worse than you think.
It’s so bad, the Biden White House has no qualms or hesitation sending a letter to news outlets instructing them on how to respond to the opening of an impeachment investigation against the president.
A normal person would be hesitant to write such a letter for fear it might cause a re-doubling of the efforts to investigate the allegations themselves, but those efforts can’t be doubled because if you multiply anything by zero you get zero. Only if you are fully confident that the media is on your team, on your side, can you draft such a letter without any concern for blowback or embarrassment if it went public.
CNN (of all places) reports, “The White House plans to send a letter to top US news executives on Wednesday, urging them to intensify their scrutiny of House Republicans after Speaker Kevin McCarthy launched an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, despite having found no evidence of a crime.”
Not surprisingly, the CNN story (written by their “media reporter”) expresses no opinion about how this administration could feel comfortable enough with media executives to write a letter declaring, “It’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies.”
The letter continues, giving orders to media to not report on any investigation objectively. “Covering impeachment as a process story – Republicans say X, but the White House says Y – is a disservice to the American public who relies on the independent press to hold those in power accountable,” it reads.
“And in the modern media environment,” the letter continues, “where every day liars and hucksters peddle disinformation and lies everywhere from Facebook to Fox, process stories that fail to unpack the illegitimacy of the claims on which House Republicans are basing all their actions only serve to generate confusion, put false premises in people’s feeds, and obscure the truth.”
To paraphrase what Democrats argued during the Trump administration, if Biden has nothing to hide, he should welcome this investigation as a chance to prove his innocence and humiliate his accusers.
That’s no longer operative, just as fighting congressional subpoenas will once again become heroic, being held in contempt of Congress will be a resume builder, and congressional investigations will become “partisan witch hunts” again.
Only in a world where Democrats are not just “cozy” with the corporate media could a letter like that be drafted, but one in which they are in bed together acting like Susanna Gibson, the Democrat running for the Virginia State Senate, and her husband who streamed nasty sex videos for profit, could a story about it end with, “The Republican House-led investigations into Biden have yet to provide any direct evidence that the president financially benefited from Hunter Biden’s career overseas.”
CNN uses the newly approved “direct” qualifier (it used to just be “no evidence,” but then so much evidence was uncovered the goal posts needed to be moved again) because the media are very, very good dogs. This proves, once again, that the White House’s concerns are unfounded. Biden’s handlers have no need to worry – the hive mind does not need to be ordered to do something to protect the agenda, they just know to do it. Corporate media knows which uniform they put on every morning; don’t you ever forget it either.
