NYPD & FDNY Join in Welcoming the Children Back to the Jewish Foundation School
Edited by: TJVNews.com
On September 6, 2023, the Jewish Foundation School of Staten Island (JFS) welcomed their students back to a new and exciting school year. On hand were teachers, staff, administration joined by the NYPD and FDNY who truly gave the students after their summer break a warm reception for the new and exciting school year.
“As the principal of the School I look through the lens of a parent and I ask myself what type of reception would I want my child to have on their first day back in class. This is a tough one, after a summer break how do we have our students transition from vacation mode to learning mode and I gather it is by demonstrating to our students how important their education and learning is to us as educators and to the important members of the community who care about you. That is why I asked Mendy Mirocznik, our good friend, parent and president of the Council of Jewish Organizations COJO to reach out and invite the NYPD and FDNY, great role models who our children respect and look up to. We accomplished much by demonstrating to our children that these important people care and at the same time inspire them to learn as best as they can and to be the best student they can be” so said Mrs. Ruth Garber, principal of JFS.
Iva Reuven, Parent Teachers Association (PTA), president of JFS remarked, “I truly must thank Mrs. Garber for making these past few years the first day of school exciting for the students. I also must express my appreciation to Mendy Mirocznik, COJO, the NYPD for being real partners in building a strong and meaningful community. I am privileged to be involved in so much, but I feel most fortunate to be involved with JFS. This involvement is not limited to just educating our children, it is also having an important impact by helping to build our future, the next generation. I am proud and honored to be part of it.
Mendy Mirocznik expressed his “deep appreciation to Mrs. Garber for revitalizing JFS and bringing to the school a new sense of purpose and meaning. Mrs. Garber is the correct fit for the school she has placed JFS on a new course as it strives to excel its great tradition of educational excellence. I must thank the incredible Iva Reuven who is more then a PTA President or COJO Food Pantry and Social Services Director. I dare say she is the heart and soul of any project or organization she is affiliated with. When JFS requested to make the opening day so wonderful, special and meaningful she asked what else can be done and we approached Empire BlueCross and BlueShield our great community partner and the Health Education Project which resulted in a School Knapsack and Supplies Giveaway for our students. I wish my first day of school as a student would have been this wonderful.
A warm greeting by the principal, teachers, staff , NYPD and FDNY and some cool school supplies to top it off. I thank Gary Tai, community outreach manager, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Carina Vizhnay, community outreach coordinator, Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Jenny Palaguachi, Outreach Coordinator, Health Education Project for their generosity and being on hand and for personally distributing these great cool knapsacks and school supplies to the students. I also thank the NYPD, Inspector Eric Waldhelm, commanding officer, Pct. 121, Officer Daniel Murro, Pct. 121, Officer Zhana Krot, Police Commissioners Liaison Unit, FDNY Lt. Louis Esposito, Fire Fighter James Bacchi, Fire Fighter Keith McMchale, Fire Fighter Frank Molino and Fire Fighter Daniel MaCkey representing Ladders 83 and 166 for attending, welcoming, interacting and giving the students one great welcome back to school. This truly was a great demonstration of community coming together and your participation made the day so meaningful and special to our children the crown of our community.”
