(i24) Security incidents during the holiday included border riots and gunfire at IDF soldiers

The Israeli military on Monday struck a post belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in retaliation against incendiary balloons, border riots and other attacks during the Yom Kippur holiday.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said a drone “struck a military post belonging to the Hamas terrorist organisation.” The post was located near an area from which assailants shot at soldiers “during a violent protest.”

Earlier in the day Palestinian gunmen near the border fence opened fire at Israeli soldiers manning a guard post across the border. The Israeli soldiers fired back.

The Hamas-controlled health ministry in Gaza reported that two assailants were wounded by “Israeli bullets” in Monday’s clashes.

In a separate incident earlier on Monday IDF soldiers identified two Palestinians attempting to cross into Israel from the southern Gaza Strip into Israeli territory and apprehended the suspects.

The latest incidents come amid daily riots at the border fence separating between the Jewish state and the Palestinian enclave.

Before Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar that sees Israel come to a halt for 25 hours, the IDF decided to beef up the security along the Gaza border.
