Edited by: TJVNews.com

A widespread recall has been issued for all flavors of Soft Serve On The Go kosher ice cream sold in 8-ounce plastic cups, according to a recent report in The Miami Herald. The recall affects 19 states and the District of Columbia due to the presence of listeria, a potentially harmful bacterium. The recall comes after state testing revealed listeria contamination, leading to the hospitalization of two individuals in New York and Pennsylvania, the Miami Herald report said. The recall notice was posted by Brooklyn-based Real Kosher Ice Cream.

The affected flavors include:

Soft Serve On The Go Vanilla Chocolate

Soft Serve On The Go Vanilla Caramel

Soft Serve On The Go Parve Vanilla Chocolate

The recall pertains to stores located in Florida, California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

What Is Listeria and Its Dangers?

Listeria is a bacterium that can cause serious health issues, particularly for vulnerable populations such as senior citizens, pregnant women, and children under 5. The Centers for Disease Control have reported that the bacterium is known to cause severe symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, high fever, severe headaches, stomachaches, stiffness, confusion, and poor balance. It’s especially concerning for pregnant women as it can lead to stillbirths, miscarriages, and life-threatening infections in newborns.

Listeria infection can result in invasive listeriosis for those with weakened immune systems or those aged 65 and older. The CDC has reported that the symptoms usually manifest within two weeks of consuming contaminated food, with fever, muscle aches, and tiredness being common indicators. Additional symptoms might include headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and seizures.

Recall Instructions

Consumers are strongly advised not to consume any of the recalled “Soft Serve On The Go” ice cream cups. Check your freezer for any affected products, as listeria can survive at freezing temperatures. Dispose of the ice cream or return it to the place of purchase for a refund, advised the Miami Herald.

If you experience any of the symptoms mentioned above after consuming the recalled ice cream, it is recommended to contact a healthcare provider promptly.

The CDC has also warned that businesses and institutions, including hospitals, schools, long-term care facilities, and camps, are urged not to sell or serve the recalled ice cream cups due to the potential risk of listeria contamination. These facilities often serve individuals who are at a higher risk of listeria illness, including the elderly, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant individuals.

For more information or inquiries regarding the recall, consumers can contact Soft Serve On The Go at 845-668-4346 or via email at [email protected]. The company’s customer service is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time.

This recall underscores the importance of prompt action when it comes to food safety concerns. It’s recommended to follow the recall instructions provided by the manufacturer and seek medical attention if you experience any symptoms related to listeria infection.
