(TJVNEWS) An official in Hawaii, supported by former President Obama, has been reassigned after reportedly refusing to allocate water resources to assist firefighters combating the Maui wildfires.
This decision was driven by his extremist environmental beliefs, leading him to prioritize specific uses of water. In recent years, Hawaii has engaged in debates about the allocation of additional water resources, even for firefighting purposes, Outkick reported.
The official in question is M. Kaleo Manuel, who held a position at the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR). As the wildfires raged uncontrollably, Maui firefighters urgently requested access to reservoirs and streams for water. However, Manuel, responsible for water resources in the Hawaiian Islands, delayed their request and insisted on a formal proposal to be submitted to agricultural landowners who utilized the water.
An interview with Manuel explaining his extremist ideology has gone viral online, where he explains how t water should be revered, not used

Although the request was eventually approved, the delay proved fatal, resulting in over 100 casualties, numerous people missing, and significant devastation to Maui. Manuel’s refusal to provide immediate assistance was exacerbated by his deep-seated environmental convictions. In a video interview that gained attention on social media, Manuel expressed his belief that water should be revered rather than used. This perspective seemingly placed the environment above individual lives.
In response to public outcry and criticism, Manuel has been reassigned from his role as deputy director.
The governor of Hawaii, Josh Green, indirectly referenced the water rights debate and environmental arguments surrounding the wildfires’ impact. The delay in water allocation has left many Maui residents angered, as they feel that the urgency of the wildfire situation should have taken precedence over political agendas.
This incident highlights the clash between environmental priorities and immediate life-saving actions during emergencies. The tragic consequences underscore the need for efficient and responsive governance in crisis situations, as well as the delicate balance between environmental concerns and human welfare.
