In a surprising turn of events, Gal Gadot’s latest spy thriller, “Heart of Stone,” has surged to the number one spot on Netflix in an impressive 93 countries, including six Arab nations, as was reported in The Times of Israel. The movie, which was released on August 11th, has captured the attention of audiences worldwide with its intriguing plot, heart-pounding action sequences, and the magnetic performance of its lead actress, the TOI report said.
What’s particularly noteworthy about this achievement is the film’s success in Arab countries that have historically been wary of Gadot due to her Israeli background, as was reported by the TOI. Countries like Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman have not only embraced “Heart of Stone,” but have propelled it to the top of their Netflix charts. The report added that this comes as a surprise considering that some of these same nations had previously banned Gadot’s films, such as the blockbuster “Wonder Woman,” in which she portrayed the iconic titular character.
“Heart of Stone” presents viewers with a gripping narrative that centers around Gadot’s character, Rachel Stone, an exceptionally skilled intelligence operative who is also a member of a covert international organization known as The Charter, according to the TOI report. Operating beyond the constraints of political or national affiliations, The Charter is dedicated to maintaining global peace.
The heart of The Charter, a source of unparalleled technological power, becomes the focal point of the story when it is stolen by the film’s antagonist, Keya Dhawan, portrayed by Bollywood A-lister Bhatt. The TOI report indicated that this high-stakes theft propels Stone into a whirlwind globe-trotting adventure, replete with heart-stopping stunts and breathtaking action scenes. As Stone embarks on her mission to recover The Charter’s heart, the audience is taken on a rollercoaster ride of suspense, intrigue, and adrenaline-pumping excitement.
According to Netflix, “Heart of Stone” has already amassed a staggering 69,600,000 hours of viewing time, reflecting its immense popularity and appeal to a global audience, the TOI report noted. The film’s success can be attributed to several factors, including Gadot’s magnetic on-screen presence, the film’s well-crafted storyline, and its seamless blend of espionage, action, and suspense.
Furthermore, the fact that “Heart of Stone” has managed to win over audiences in Arab countries where Gadot’s past works were banned suggests a potential shift in attitudes and a willingness to separate art from politics, the report said. This achievement might also serve as a stepping stone towards fostering cultural exchange and greater understanding among nations.
In 2021, Gadot starred alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in the Netflix action comedy film Red Notice, written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, according to a report on Wikipedia. The following year, she co-starred with Kenneth Branagh, Armie Hammer, Ali Fazal, Tom Bateman, and Annette Bening in the 2022 mystery film Death on the Nile, which was also directed by Branagh.
In 2023, Gadot made uncredited cameo appearances as Wonder Woman in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash. She also returned to the Fast & Furious franchise with a cameo appearance in Fast X.
On June 26, 2023, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that Gadot would receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, class 2024, making her the first person of Israeli descent to receive the honor.
