Edited by: TJVNews.com
On August 17, 2023, the Belz Day Camp visited the FDNY at Clove Lakes Park located in the Sunnyside section of the borough. On hand was Lt. Brendan Mohan of Ladder 83 who together with a few of the firefighters under his command gave the campers an entertaining but educational demonstration on fire safety and described the day-to-day experience and life of a firefighter.
Mendy Mirocznik, president, Council of Jewish Organizations of Staten Island (COJO) remarked, “the expansion of the Jewish community in Staten Island is a process that has been ongoing for the past few years. Today’s positive interaction between the FDNY and the Belz Day Camp is the realization how much the community has fortunately grown in the past few years and is a signal of a healthy new chapter for the Staten Island community.”
Mirocznik then thanked Edward Jackson, Staten Island Borough Director, Office of the Mayor Of New York City, Chief Brian Gorman, Staten Island FDNY Borough Commander and Lt. Mohan for their, “educational enhancement of the campers. As a community we search for positive interaction between the important individuals in our community and our children to help mold their character. Today, I was pleased to see the campers’ enthusiasm and appreciation for Lt. Mohan and his firefighters as they demonstrated fire safety and explained the important role and responsibility that firefighters have in keeping us safe. I thank Yossi Deutsch, head counselor of the Belz Camp for permitting me the pleasure and honor of joining his wonderful campers on today’s adventure with the FDNY.”
