The iconic GM Building located at 767 Fifth Avenue in New York City is taking its commitment to tenant satisfaction and competitive edge to new heights, according to a recent report in the New York Post. With a focus on catering to the preferences of tech-loving occupants, the tower’s majority owner, BXP (formerly Boston Properties), has introduced a cutting-edge amenities center named Savoy Club. Spanning an impressive 35,000 square feet on the second floor, Savoy Club offers a lavish 18,000 square-foot wellness facility, including state-of-the-art fitness and relaxation amenities, the Post reported. This move comes at a time when the office-leasing season is experiencing a slowdown, demonstrating BXP’s determination to maintain the GM Building’s status as a desirable workplace destination.
The Wellness at Savoy Club is set to revolutionize the concept of corporate wellness by offering an array of health and fitness options. The Post report indicated that the facility boasts a spin studio, yoga room, and a well-equipped gym complete with cardio equipment. Tenants will be able to engage in invigorating exercise routines while enjoying luxurious locker rooms and grooming stations. Recognizing the importance of employee well-being in today’s competitive job market, Hilary Spann, BXP’s New York region executive vice-president, stated to the Post that, “Access to wellness resources is just as important as other job factors like compensation, location, and amenities.” By prioritizing the health and fitness needs of its tenants, the GM Building aims to attract and retain top talent.
The Savoy Club not only offers exceptional fitness facilities but also includes a new cafe that provides an upscale dining experience, as was reported by the Post. Featuring La Colombe coffee products, artisanal pastries, and grab-and-go breakfast and lunch options, tenants can savor culinary delights without leaving the premises. The Post also reported that this addition caters to the modern professional’s need for convenience and high-quality services, making the GM Building an even more appealing workplace.
In addition to the wellness and dining facilities, the Savoy Club presents a state-of-the-art conference center, as was reported by the Post. This versatile space allows tenants to host meetings, presentations, and events in a sophisticated and technologically advanced environment. The Post report indicated that by providing this amenity, the GM Building enables its occupants to conduct business seamlessly within the premises, further enhancing its allure as a premier office destination.
The GM Building, with its distinguished history, has long been an architectural icon in New York City, the Post report said. Notable features of the tower include the renowned Apple Cube, which was installed on the plaza during the ownership of Harry Macklowe, and the large gold letters spelling out TRUMP, a testament to a previous owner, the Post reported. These historical elements add to the allure of the GM Building and contribute to its prominence in the city’s landscape.
The GM Building was designed in the International Style by Edward Durell Stone & Associates with Emery Roth & Sons and completed in 1968, as was reported by Wikipedia.
The building was developed by London Merchant Securities and was half occupied by General Motors (GM) upon its opening. Wikipedia reported that the building’s facade is made of vertical piers of white Georgia marble, alternating with strips of glass. The building has about 1.7 million square feet (160,000 m2) of space, and the lobby originally contained a GM showroom, later an FAO Schwarz department store. The public plaza outside the building on Fifth Avenue was originally below grade but, after two renovations, contains the Apple Fifth Avenue entrance and a seating area above ground level.
