Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital has been named one of “America’s Best Cancer Hospitals” in 2023 by Newsweek for high-quality care and excellent services for cancer patients. The hospital was listed in the top 90 with a notable mention of its breast cancer services. The prestigious list was curated to provide the public with a comprehensive resource for informed decision-making regarding oncology care. Northwell’s Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center was also listed in the top 90. Lenox Hill and the R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Hospital at LIJ Medical Center are both part of the Northwell Health Cancer Institute, which treats more New York residents for cancer than anyone else in the state.*
The inaugural rankings provided by Newsweek, a premier global news magazine, are based on a national survey of over 2,000 health care professionals who were asked to recommend leading cancer hospitals in the country based on multiple aspects, including nurse staffing, medical equipment, patient education and counseling, and supportive and palliative care. Hospitals were rated based on treatments for various types of cancer, including prostate, lung, cervical, breast, colorectal and leukemia. In addition, hospital quality metrics relevant to oncology care and results from patient surveys were used to analyze patient experience.
“These rankings are a testament that Lenox Hill is committed to providing the latest advancements in technology, evidence based research and cancer therapeutics in order to offer superior, personalized care to our patients,” said Jeannine Villella, DO, director of the Northwell Health Cancer Institute at Lenox Hill, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital; and the new Northwell Medical Pavilion. “Our mission is to deliver excellence in comprehensive cancer care to ensure our patients have the best possible outcomes.”
To expand and enhance its oncological services in Manhattan, Northwell Health is constructing a 15-floor, 200,000-square-foot outpatient medical pavilion that will offer world-class care anchored by the innovative programs of the Cancer Institute. Located on the Upper East Side, the state-of-the-art facility will provide multidisciplinary treatments for breast, gastrointestinal, colorectal, gynecologic, head and neck, neurosurgical, thoracic, and urologic cancers.
Newsweek previously placed Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital among the “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals” in 2023 for outstanding care in several disciplines. Neurosurgery (28), orthopedics (56), and cardiology (137) all ranked for expertise in these clinical specialties, as well as for pioneering scientific development.
Lenox Hill has also received a top-50 national rating for cancer in 2022-2023 from U.S. News and World Report. In addition, the publication designated the hospital’s colon, lung, prostate, and gynecologic cancer surgery programs “high performing.”
The hospital also earned a three-year accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for its rectal cancer program.
