A supervising detective who played a role in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prosecution of former President Donald Trump has been suspended due to his interactions with Trump’s former lawyer and adversary, Michael Cohen, according to law enforcement sources.

Jeremy Rosenberg, an investigator specializing in financial crimes for Bragg’s office, had his firearm confiscated following the reported contact with Cohen.

A spokesperson for Bragg stated that the office is currently reviewing the investigator’s compliance with internal protocols. The district attorney’s office is specifically examining how Rosenberg shared communications related to Cohen within the office.

In response to the suspension, Cohen’s attorney, Lanny J. Davis, emphasized that the interactions between Rosenberg, Cohen, and himself were always professional and centered on Cohen’s personal security, which they appreciated.

While the suspension may not directly impact the case against Trump, defense lawyers would likely seek more information about the nature of the relationship between Rosenberg and Cohen. Understanding the details of their interactions and whether any relevant information was disclosed to the defense could be of interest to Trump’s legal team.

Critics have criticized the suspension as a politically motivated move by Bragg, whom they view as soft on crime. John Fleming, retired Detective Investigators Association President, compared the situation to actions taken by the FBI.

In addition to his involvement in the Trump prosecution, Rosenberg also assisted in the case against Steve Bannon, who was charged with an alleged $15 million border-wall fundraising scam. Trump later issued a pardon for Bannon. Rosenberg did not respond to requests for comment.

It is worth noting that Jeremy Rosenberg is a retired NYPD detective and investigator working under Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Prior to his involvement in the Trump prosecution, he was part of investigations related to cryptocurrency and drug dealing on the dark web, as stated in an earlier news release from Bragg’s office.

Alvin Bragg indicted Trump earlier this year for an alleged $130,000 hush payment made to former porn star Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 election, intended to keep her quiet about an alleged affair with Trump a decade prior. Cohen, who turned against Trump after serving prison time for campaign finance crimes and lying to Congress, cooperated with Bragg’s investigation into Trump. In response, Trump labeled the indictment as political persecution and election interference, referring to Bragg as “a disgrace.” Trump has since filed a $500 million lawsuit against Cohen, accusing him of spreading falsehoods and violating a confidentiality agreement.

Meanwhile Trump’s legal issues continue to escalate and in the social media universe Trump loyalists like Laura Loomer have been in full attack mode on who is perceived to be Trump’s main opponent Ron De Santis. The GOP base is at war with each other, and we are over a year away from the first caucus.  There is no guarantee at this point Trump will even be a nominee by the time Iowa rolls around.

MSNBC legal analyst Andrew Weissmann said Monday on “The Last Word” that he believes former President Donald Trump will be indicted this week in special counsel Jack Smith’s classified documents probe.

Weissmann tweeted, “A zillion stories about the Trump case, but the bottom line is he is getting charged and it will be in D.C., and this week. Open issues is whether others may be charged and whether they will be in D.C. or Florida.”
