Target has sparked outrage after joining the growing list of woke retail giants.
As reported by the NY Post, Target Corp has launched its “LGBT Pride” collection, which includes so-called “tuck-friendly” wear and rainbow-colored onesies for children and infants. Target’s offering of transgender clothing includes: bathing suits with “tuck-friendly construction” and “extra crotch coverage”, as well as T-shirts that say “Pride Adult Drag Queen ‘Katya,’” “Trans people will always exist!” and “Girls Gays Theys,” as promoted on the company website. The line was launched in anticipation of next month’s Pride Month.
This sparked outrage from conservative sources, particularly because the clothing targets kids and even infants. Per the Post, the company’s move is being likened to the Bud Light fiasco, in which the top-selling beer company tied itself with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney in April, when the star posted on Instagram displaying a personalized Bud Light can the company sent her to celebrate “365 Days of Girlhood.” The stunt had not only sparked outrage but also led to calls for boycotts, leading the company’s year-over-year sales to drop close to 25 percent for the week ending May 6. The BUD stock price also dropped from $66.73 at the end of March to $58.88 as of Monday morning.
“Target about to become Bud Light 2.0,” tweeted Citizens Free Press, a conservative news outlet, referring to the new trend with retailers aligning themselves with the LGBT cause. Target, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is known as the seventh largest retailer in the United States, boasting annual revenue of $109.1 billion in 2022.
“This is what you will find in the kid’s section of @Target,” posted a Twitter user, using the handle “Gays against Groomers”, sharing a video of the swimsuits in a children section at an unidentified Target store. “We urge you to take your business elsewhere. They are indoctrinating and grooming them with LGBTQ ideology. It is highly inappropriate and disturbing. We hope there are enough parents out there that understand how wrong this is and show them that this garbage will not sell”, the Twitter post continued. “The only thing these people understand is money. Target deserves the Bud Light treatment. We will work to put the pressure on them.” The user sought comment from Target, but didn’t seem to get a response yet. The Daily Wire commentator Matt Walsh also commented on the new line. “What @Target is doing is far worse than anything Bud Light did,” Walsh said. “They are selling chest binders and ‘tuck-friendly’ bathing suits for children.” Target’s stock price has fallen from over $160 on May 15, down to $151.18 this Monday morning.
Last week, Starbucks also enraged conservatives with a new commercial aired in India, in which a family accepts their child after his/her trans transition. The coffee chain had shared the video on social media, writing in the following: “At Starbucks, we love and accept you for who you are. Because being yourself means everything to us.”
