(A7) Dr. Homayoun Sameyah, the representative of the Jewish community in the Iranian parliament, participated in the anti-Israeli “Al-Quds Day” march in Iran.
Commenting on Al-Quds Day in a conversation with Iranian media, he said, “Every year there are important things for Al-Quds Day, this day is very important not only for Iranians, but also for all nations that want the end of oppression in the world.”
On the demonstrations against the government in Israel, Sameh said, “On the eve of Al-Quds Day this year, we are witnessing the existence of major problems within the Zionist regime. In the way that Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of the occupied Jerusalem regime, is trying to distance as much as possible the public opinion of the people in the occupied territories and even of the world from the internal crisis of this regime, it is necessary that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not allow Netanyahu and the Zionist regime to achieve their goals.”
Dr. Sameyah, a pharmacist by profession and a member of the Health and Medical Committee of the Islamic Council of Iran, added, “All the residents of Iran, as well as all the freedom-seeking people in the world, should encourage the oppressed people of Palestine by participating in the Al-Quds Day march.”
On the political gathering of Iran with the representatives of the Islamic countries in the region, he explained, “The changes in Iran’s foreign policy and the gathering of Iran with the Islamic countries in the region is very important. This will increase the importance of this year’s Al-Quds Day and strengthen the positions of the countries in the region against the Zionist regime, Israel is marching towards a dictatorship under Netanyahu. Fortunately, we are witnessing the weakening of Netanyahu within the occupied territories.”
He claimed that Netanyahu is interested in “managing the Zionist regime through the establishment of a dictatorship, and this issue is useful to the opponents of the occupying regime, because this dictatorship and the internal differences have caused instability within this regime and will bring the victory of the Palestinian people closer.”
He wished for the return of the “Palestinian people to their lands” and stressed, “Every year the Jewish community of Iran participates in the Al-Quds Day procession in various cities in our country”. He claimed that this year the procession is “much more enthusiastic and fuller than in previous years”, and declared his “disgust with the Zionist regime”.
Jews in several cities in Iran participated in Al-Quds Day marches against the State of Israel.
The Jewish community in Iran, numbering about 8,000, lives in the country in the shadow of fear of harassment or accusations of espionage. Its leaders are constantly trying to differentiate between Judaism and Zionism.
While Iranian leaders regularly call for Israel’s destruction, the Jewish community there is on good terms with the authorities.
Sameyah in the past condemned the killing of IRGC commander Qassem Soleimani, who was eliminated in a US air strike in Iraq in 2020, and offered his condolences to the general’s family.
He lauded Soleimani as an “officer of peace and security, the symbol of honor, zealousness, the opposite of arrogance, and a symbol of the defense of the weak and the homeland.”
