Teen charged for violent muggings of Crown Heights Jewish boys

A teen was arrested and charged for the violent muggings of two Jewish boys in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York on Thursday.

The suspect, 16, is being held on $50,000 bail or a $100,000 bond, ColLive reported.

He was arrested after being identified from surveillance footage of the attack. According to the NYPD, he has a record of at least six past arrests.

The teen was one of five assailants who brutally attacked and robbed two Jewish boys on Monday night around 9 p.m. in Crown Heights while they were walking on Albany Avenue near Crown Street, according to the news outlet.

The group of five Black teens approached the Jewish boys from behind, according to the police report. The two victims heard the assailants say “get them,” before they accosted one of the victims and forced him to hand over the contents of his pockets. He was then punched in the face hard enough to knock him to the ground.

Hatzalah was called by a witness to the unprovoked assault. They transported the victim to the hospital. He received medical treatment for a broken nose and broken facial bones. His face is also “heavily bruised,” according to two rabbis interviewed by the news outlet, who also called for the NYPD to add additional patrols in the area.
