Although 3,000 miles apart with many geographical, atmospheric and demographic differences, New York is trying its best to emulate California in its decline into destructive drug delusionism. About two years ago, New York passed the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act that legalized the recreational use of marijuana. And they did this in the name of “social justice.” To reinforce this lunacy Governor Kathy Hochul said that the law is all about, “creating jobs and opportunities and supporting small businesses.” Of course, when a politician proposes a cause that invokes caring for people, remind yourself to follow the money trail. And her pushing the sale of drugs to her citizens also involves huge tax incomes to feed her reckless spending habits. Proponents of her measure estimate these legal marijuana sales will generate $4 billion over the next five years. None of the bill’s backers even thought of the impact of marijuana on kids and those poor souls whose entry into drug hell usually starts with the use of marijuana. Of course. What do they care?
Not only is the income factor big to Hochul and her Progressive Crew, but “Race” is also a factor. According to the brand new state Office of Cannabis Management, this new law will focus on “social and economic equity.” Therefore, in a totally dictatorial, un-American and anti-democracy manner, half of all retail licenses are reserved for minorities, women, distressed farmers and “individuals disproportionally impacted” by the war on drugs. In other words, those with records of marijuana related crimes will be the first on line to get distribution licenses. Not much of an interest on the part of our legislatures for improving our failing educational system, but an avid desire instead, to help former drug dealers get back into the business…..legally. Another factor, aside from the “race” issue, is that in California and other states with legalized marijuana shops, the black marketing of this product has skyrocketed, leading to the closing of many licensed outlets. This marketing disaster was fueled by the high taxation and heavy regulation of legal retailers of the drug. “You can’t make any money in this market,” said an owner of one of the first dispensaries on the west coast.
But most of all, our argument against legalizing pot is its danger to the health of the community, especially to our young. According to the experts, marijuana makes it harder for the user to focus, learn and remember things. And using pot in the teen years, has permanent effects. In working with adolescents, it was found that even after short use, brains changed drastically, especially in the parts linked to alertness, learning and memory. In addition, marijuana use resulted in lowered IQ scores in some people. And the inhalation of the smoke resulted in lung damage similar to that after cigarette addiction. Why are cigarettes bad for our health yet the smoking of pot encouraged?
In short, we cannot accept our politicians selling out our communities, especially our young in order to have “racial equity” and to increase in our taxation income. It just isn’t worth it. Let them know we’re not interested in increasing drug use and giving former drug dealers the opportunity to again destroy our communities with drugs. We’ve had enough of that!
