(Daily Caller) A Republican New Jersey councilwoman was gunned down in her car outside of her home and killed Wednesday evening, according to multiple reports.
Police found Eunice Dwumfour, 30, dead inside of her crashed SUV after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds outside of her apartment complex in Sayreville, according to a report from ABC 7. Though police have no motive for the shooting, they told the outlet they believe she was targeted.
Dwumfour, a part-time EMT and business analyst, was elected to the Sayreville council in 2021, WPVI-TV reported. She also worked with a Nigerian-based church group and served as a member of the Sayreville Human Relations Commission, according to the New York Post.
Mahesh Chitnis, a fellow member of the commission and Dwumfour’s neighbor, told the outlet she was still “processing” the news of her friend’s death.
“I am shocked, scared and heartbroken. She was shot while returning back home. She was a woman full of life. Eunice, rest in peace my friend…” Chitnis stated.
Juan and Nelia Rodriguez, also members of the commission, expressed their grief on a shared Facebook page, calling Dwumfour a “personal friend” and “woman of God.”
“She was an amazing friend, a woman who loved God. We were just at our HRC meeting January 5th 2023 and I just saw her this morning at the store. I remember saying to her I see you at the HRC meeting tomorrow not knowing tonight was going to be the end of her life. I can’t stop crying. She was 30 years young and full of life. You will be missed my dear, precious friend,” they wrote.
Sayreville Police and Middlesex County officials are investigating the shooting.
