Woke Era Heralds Demise of the Disney Dynasty

When a great movie studio famous for making morally acceptable and successful at the box office children’s movies such as Snow White, Bambi, Dumbo, Pinocchio and others of that ilk, decides to go woke, it surely will end up broke. Many may call us opinionated and old fashioned, but we wish for that particular movie making empire, Disney, to take that path. When they turned their back on its dedicated, once loyal audience and tried to suck up to the radical Left with LGBT+ and anti-family-focused films, Disney Studios turned us off and apparently, many millions of other ticket buyers. They lost us, our loyalty and our bucks, when they left decency behind.

In an attempt to remedy their downward spiral, former incompetent, CEO Bob Chapek was fired by the Disney Board of Directors and lured back Robert Iger out of retirement to replace him as chief executive. The announcement  was made November 21, just two weeks after Disney’s quarterly financial performance tumbled with shares dropping 12%. A sure sign of buyer discontent. Iger was the studio’s public face for 15 years as CEO before making the dreadful choice of selecting Chapek as his replacement. Live and learn.

Under Chapek, Disney ran head on into the solid, non-yielding Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on political issues involving the teaching of multi-gender acceptance and other unacceptable for that age sexual issues. As a result of this conflict, parents revolted and since they pay for their kids movie selections as well as their box office tickets, Disney lost big time. In addition, Disney lost control of over 25,000 of their acreage by the actions of the Florida legislature. Their Reedy Park District means that local counties, not the corporation, will now have the oversight in Disney’s projects such as the construction of hotels, theme parks. Not a good business plan.

But let’s get back to their descent into wokeness, moral degradation and what we consider generally, not suitable movie material for kids. Their animations studios have started including more LBGT+ characters as part of Pixar and Disney’s Animation’s efforts to produce stories that include a more diverse swath of characters and cultures that are basically adult themes.

For instance, the new animated Disney movie, “Strange World” is under-performing at the box office and is estimated to ultimately lose $147 million. The film features the first openly LGBT+ teenage Disney character, who discusses his crush in the movie. Film critic and author, Christian Toto, agrees with us. Talking of the film’s bombing: “Hollywood (particularly Disney) doesn’t fully understand or grasp the ‘go woke, go broke’ mantra. In some cases, parents are avoiding content with sexual conversations. Parents are {savvier} today. They use social media and get feedback on films from their peers either online or in person. Disney may soon realize that woke isn’t a money making position.”

Let us throw some of Mr. Iger’s own words back to him in our suggestions directed to the film studio’s new leader. Your firm has been making uplifting films for kids for over a century. They’ve had memorable, meaningful and positive impacts on all of us living today. And one of the core values we absorb and look for in kids’ movies is family values, decency and morality. That’s all we ask for. Please go back to and give us more of the Disney films we still cherish and we’ll, in turn and in exchange, gladly hand over our hard earned money at the box office. Simply put, clean up your story lines. Let’s make a deal!!!!
