Son of Canadian Billionaires Barry & Honey Sherman Offers $35M Reward for Info Leading to Arrest of Party Responsible
The son of billionaires Barry and Honey Sherman who were murdered five years ago at their Toronto home has now significantly upped the reward for information that can help authorities find and arrest his parents’ murderer to $35 million Canadian dollars, according to a Fox News report on Saturday.
“Closure will not be possible until those responsible for this evil act are brought to justice,” Jonathon Sherman told CBC Toronto when he announced the increased reward, Fox News reported.
“This immeasurable pain is felt every day when I realize that my own two children will never have the privilege of meeting my parents who made their lives possible for me and my husband,” he continued. “My parents deserved to enjoy the fruits of their labor, and spend their twilight years as any grandparent should, with their family.”
“I continue to miss my parents more than I can describe, and I am forever haunted by what happened to them,” he said.
Sherman, 75, was known for litigiousness and aggressive business practices as he developed the Apotex pharmaceutical company which had a global work force of about 11,000, according to an AP report. In “Prescription Games,” a 2001 book about the industry, he mused that a rival might want to kill him.
Barry and Honey Sherman were renowned for their exceptional philanthropy. They were found murdered in a grisly fashion at their home on December 15, 2017. The couple were found with belts around their necks and tied to the railings of their pool.
On December 8th of this year, PRNewswire.com reported that the daughter of Barry and Honey Sherman also issued a plea to the public for information leading to the capture and arrest of the person or persons responsible for the murder of her parents.
The statement read:
“Five years ago, on December 13, 2017, my beloved parents, Honey and Barry Sherman, were brutally murdered in their Toronto home. So far there has been no justice for them and no closure for me and my family.
My heart is broken. My loss is immeasurable. My children have lost their grandparents. We miss their guidance, love, and wisdom.
With kindness and humility, my parents provided leadership and unbound generosity to charities across Canada and around the world. Their dedication to service and philanthropy impacted many people, some of whom have shared their beautiful and inspiring stories with me.
The horrific manner in which they were taken from us has been extremely traumatic and has irreparably damaged the fabric of our community.
Toronto Police Service Homicide Unit continues to pursue its ongoing and active investigation. The $10 million reward for information leading to a conviction remains available and is still unclaimed.”
In December 2021, the AP reported that police were asking for the public’s help after releasing video of a suspect in the killing of the Shermans.
Toronto Detective Sgt. Brandon Price said last year that the suspect spent “a very suspicious amount of time” in the immediate area of the Sherman home around the time the Shermans were murdered.
Price provided the public with security camera footage of a man or woman walking down a sidewalk with a hat who seems to kick up his or her right boot with each step, according to the AP report. The video does not show the suspect’s face. Price estimated the person is 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9 tall.
Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect.
