A Die-Hard Democrat on Joe Biden

Dear Editor:

Maybe I don’t belong in your paper. I’m a die-hard Democrat and I don’t get the feeling that my letter supporting President Biden will ever reach the pages of your publication. First of all, President Biden is all in support of Israel. He was the Vice President under the most beneficent pro-Israel president of all time, Obama. No one before or since his terms has given the Jewish state more support. Trump doesn’t come close!

He gave them billions of dollars, had the Iron Dome produced and developed for them and always backed Israel in the United Nations and Security Council. Whenever Israel needed something, he was right there, johnny on the spot to give it to them. The organizations I belong to expect more from Israel concerning its poor treatment of Palestinians. There is a lot of work yet to be done by all for Israel to be at its best but I am with them 100%. If this letter is published, I’d appreciate it and I’ll show it to all my friends as proof that you are fair and square with all. They need convincing.

 Thanks,

Cults Ignore Facts

(The following is a rebuttal to a previous published letter titled: “Ukrainian Support for Palestinians”)

Dear Editor:

The statement, “Israel has punished Palestinians for years for trying to get its own state and liberate its own people” epitomizes cult thinking.  Fringe cults ignore indisputable facts, use selective amnesia to rewrite history and smear others.

Indisputable Facts:

“Murder of Israeli athletes in Munich is a “heroic operation” according to Abbas’ Fatah.

“Palestinian children recite poems on official PA TV stating that “our enemy, Zion, is Satan with a tail,” Jews are “the most evil among creations, barbaric monkeys, wretched pigs.”

“For International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Palestinian ‎Authority, in a program on official ‎PA TV, the host taught viewers that the Holocaust was the price the Jews paid for their ‎evil behavior – their “conspiracies and wickedness.”

Cults use specious reasoning to lead you to a false conclusion. Legitimate criticism of Ukraine or Zelensky does not mean one is against democracy or Ukraine’s mission. Fact: Ukraine has never voted in favor of Israel. Fact: Zelensky berates Israel for not meeting all its demands, despite the security risk it might pose.

Another hallmark of cults is their selective amnesia, ignoring statements like these, while they bash only Israel:

“Abbas declared his support for Putin’s stance on Ukraine during a phone call between the two men. Abbas has a close personal relationship with Russia that mirrors the historically warm ties between Moscow and the PLO. In the early 1980s, Abbas studied in the Soviet Union, where he was awarded a doctorate for a dissertation falsely alleging that the Zionist movement was just as culpable as the Nazi regime for the Holocaust during World War II.”

Take some advice. Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, “In the last several decades the Palestinian leadership has missed one opportunity after the other and rejected all the peace proposals it was given…It is about time the Palestinians take the proposals and agree to come to the negotiations table or shut up and stop complaining.”

“Threat” to Israeli Democracy

Dear Editor,

In your daily newsletter, I read a reaction to New York Times’ editorial on the “threat” to Israeli democracy from the incoming government. I thought I’d send you the reaction posted in NER — though it focuses on a totally different (i.e. legal) aspect of the editorial, some of its points may be of interest to you: “The New York Times loves judicial activism, Hence, it yells at Israel — and is mum on America”: The New York Times loves judicial activism, Hence, it yells at Israel — and is mum on America.

All the best,

Praising The Jewish Voice
 for Outstanding Coverage

Dear Editor:

I’m writing this as a new reader of your paper who was introduced to it by a friend and neighbor. And the opinion I express is my own. I’m truly thankful I get it in the mail each week, although a bit late, I must say.

You cover city news as well as international and your choice of writers and columnists is outstanding. I particularly enjoy the exceptionally well written cover stories by Fern Sidman. I have read her articles over the years in many Jewish publications and her writing style and thorough research is impeccable. I also love to read the columns throughout the week. Of course, their political viewpoints are right on the money and you all support a strong Israel. My compliments to you all. I have and will continue to talk to my friends and neighbors to influence them to subscribe to your publication but ask one thing…..get the paper here on time. I hate to read last month’s weather today. Also, while I think of it, you could add a sports section on to influence younger and more active readers to hop on your train. Perhaps substitute some of your real estate stories for sports.

Thanks!

Shunned for Political Views

Dear Editor:

I live in Delray Beach, Florida and am a total Conservative-Republican-Trump supporter although I am in the minority among my neighbors. In fact, I went from two golf games and three card games a week to going to Panera Bread alone within the last 5 years. My fellow community mates despise me for my outspoken political views. And these people, my neighbors, will have nothing to do with me. I’m an outcast among these Jews.

In fact, the synagogue I used to attend, whose rabbi is a violent, anti-Israel member of T’ruah, stopped awarding me the honor of getting aliyahs once they found out my political preference. Shameful that I had to leave. And I left with my yearly contributions to them, as well. But now I’m with Chabad and am accepted by Israel and Jew loving Jews. Rare to find these days.

My suggestion to others planning to relocate to Southern Florida. Walk around the prospective communities, talk to the people about their political views before you buy. Don’t be disappointed as I became with my neighborhood.

Sincerely
Robert Sommerfield
Delray Beach, Florida
