Vision Zero: On Citywide “Day of Awareness” Adams Admin Announces Major Traffic Enforcement & Education Efforts for Return of “Dusk & Darkness”

The Adams administration will announce a major traffic enforcement and education campaign as the City’s annual Dusk and Darkness program returns.  The campaign keeps pedestrians and cyclists safe during fall and winter evenings, when the danger of traffic fatalities increases – especially after clocks “fall back” for the end of Daylight Saving Time this coming Sunday, November 6. NYPD plans to expand traffic enforcement of dangerous moving violations during the evening and overnight hours.  Representatives of the carting industry will also join the effort for the first time, discussing their efforts to improve safety during the overnight hours when most commercial waste collection occurs.

*Earlier on Thursday, Commissioner Rodriguez will host a b-roll opportunity in Washington Heights as he leaflets with NYPD and DOT Street Teams informing commuters about the seasonal dangers of evening commutes during this time of year.
