“Jewish voters continue to support Democratic candidates by a substantial margin, while Republicans have made modest gains in recent cycles,” the Jewish Electorate Institute stated. “Democrats turned in their weakest performance among Jewish voters since 2012, with some polls indicating drop-offs in Jewish support ranging from four to 11 points over 2012 to 2024.”Aug. 17, 2022.Ben Fractenberg/THE CITY
Calling Our Rabbis to Urge Congregants to Vote on Nov 8th!!
With national and the all important local elections less than just two weeks away, we’re calling for our esteemed rabbis and influential lay leaders to exhort their congregants to get out and vote for their selected candidates.
As Americans, we cherish the rights afforded us in this country to directly participate in the democratic process and we are inherently proud to exercise our moral and civic responsibility. The greater our voting numbers, the more important our voices become to the political leaders and those elected. They know it and keep an eye on and vie for winning our support.
In New York, for instance, it is absolutely imperative for all Jews in Brooklyn and throughout the city to cast their votes for candidates whose political platform will positively impact our daily lives on an individual and collective basis. We need candidates in office who care deeply about fighting the rising tide of anti-Semitism that has gripped the city, the nation and the world. We need candidates in office who will strongly advocate for the preservation of our yeshivas and Jewish day schools. We need candidates in office who will protect our personal observance and strict adherence to the tenets of our faith. We need candidates in office who will work to lower taxes and improve our quality of life. We need candidates in office who will wage a bold and effective campaign against the escalating crime rate in the city and will work towards the revocation of the current bail reform laws that allow violent criminals to roam our streets.
Of particular importance, is the upcoming New York gubernatorial race. We are being offered a choice that will affect us now and in the future. We can either walk the path of woke progressivism whose ideology stands in stark contradiction to ours or we can attempt to preserve the values that have guided us throughout the millennium.
We ask that all rabbis and lay leaders devote their sermons and lessons in the remaining days before the election to drive these points home to their congregants. Each eligible voter must participate as we all MUST choose our own futures!
