It appears that the lives of wealthy residents of the Hamptons are filled with the excitement of summer fun out in this preferred vacation destination, but their lives also take on a soap opera quality with scandal and controversy swirling around them.
The New York Post has reported that a same sex couple are involved in a legal entanglement which involves property out in the Hamptons and the child they had together.
According to a lawsuit that was recently filed, Allison Scollar, an attorney who had previously waged a legal battle with her ex-partner Brook Altman over the custody of the daughter they had together has now allegedly sold a property out in Sag Harbor that the couple had put in trust for the minor child, the Post reported. The report indicated that in the lawsuit filed by Altman in Manhattan Supreme Court, Scollar has not been forthcoming concerning the money she made off the house and told their daughter that she would be the recipient of the value of the house when she passes on.
In 2019, a tree had struck the Sag Harbor home and as a result it became uninhabitable. The report indicated that Scollar also said that the proceeds of the sale were placed in a tax-friendly 1031 exchange, the Post report indicated.
Scollar, who was disbarred in 2015 for absconding with $2 million from escrow accounts that belonged to her clients, sold the house located at 87 Harrison Street in Sag Harbor for $855,000, according to the Post report. Of her disbarment, Scollar said, “This is in the past and my life is fully turned around.”
Having given birth to the daughter they share in October 2006, Altman conceived the child with sperm donated by a friend of Scollar’s, the Post reported. As time passed, the relationship found itself on the rocks and the two split. During the custody hearings, a judge awarded custody of the daughter to Scollar, saying that she was the more responsible parent, but the case took on a great legal significance because Scollar was not the biological mother, according to the report.
Court filings reveal that with Altman, an Emmy Award-winning television producer who helped launch Martha Stewart’s TV show is now living with the 15-year-old daughter, the Post reported. For her part, Scollar has said that she remains the child’s legal guardian and that “legally she resides with me. Her school registration, taxes and passport are all registered with me,” the report indicates.
Concerning the custody case, the Post reported that in 2013, Scollar leveled a harassment accusation against a sergeant in the NYPD.
The Post reported that Scollar has asserted that the latest lawsuit filed by Altman is replete with mendacious claims and said that previous legal assaults launched against her by her ex-partner have failed. The report also indicated that Scollar called Altman “an insane litigant.”
