NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island on Monday announced that $2 million in funding from Representative Nicole Malliotakis was secured in the Fiscal Year 2022 Consolidated Appropriations Act. The funding will be used to acquire ultrasound equipment for its inpatient and outpatient services, which will replace existing units with new state-of-the-art equipment, offering increased image quality and advanced features that will improve patient outcomes. The funding will also allow the hospital to purchase technology that will provide brand-new digital care experiences to our patients. This project will focus on modernizing how the hospital communicates with patients, staff and visitors. These improvement initiatives are part of the future NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health campus, featuring the new Ruth Bader Ginsburg hospital opening in early fall 2022.
“We are extremely grateful to Representative Malliotakis for securing this funding on our behalf. This initiative will allow us to purchase new and improved equipment to care for our patients in the best way possible and to bring innovative communication ideas to our campus. Our communities are diverse and vibrant and we want to make sure that our campus is friendly and welcoming to all who come here” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island CEO, Svetlana Lipyanskaya, MPA.
“As Southern Brooklyn’s public hospital, Coney Island Hospital sees over 215,000 outpatient visits and 63,000 visits to its emergency room. We must continue to invest in our health care system to keep up with medical innovation and new technology, which is why I’m proud to have secured $2 million for new ultrasound equipment for the hospital’s radiology department in this year’s federal budget. I promised to go to Washington and fight for Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn, and I’m happy to have played a role in ensuring the residents of our community continue to receive high-quality, patient-centered care at our hospitals,” said Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis.
“Patient experience and satisfaction are important components of providing high quality care,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island CMO, Terence Brady, MD. “Advanced medical equipment and attentive care help create a positive environment for patients, visitors and staff. We want our patients to know they’re getting high quality care from a hospital campus that cares about them as an individual.”
“We know that when patients and their care team understand each other and work together, their experience and overall health are better. Every patient deserves attentive care, effective education about their health and information in their native language,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island CQO, Theresa Madaline, MD. “Our approach to patient care aims to deliver high quality medical care – based on the latest science – in a humanistic and culturally appropriate way. The new digital care experience will play a crucial role in helping us better connect with patients and, ultimately, help them feel more engaged and confident receiving care with us.”
In CY 2021, the hospital provided diagnostic and imaging services to approximately 15,000 patients. With the acquisition of the new technology, the Radiology Department can now provide these services to up to 20,000 patients a year.
