(VINnews) – The Jewish World plunged into mourning in the midst of Shushan Purim Day with the passing of the greatest of the generation from the Gedolei HaTorah, Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, who has passed way at the age of 94.

In the last few days Rav Chaim was not feeling well and on Friday afternoon there was a severe deterioration in his situation and he collapsed in his home. Thousands of people rushed to say Tehillim for Rabbi Shmaryahu Yosef Chaim ben Pesha but medics were forced to declare his death after attempts at resuscitation failed.

The levaya will take place on Sunday in order that the entire Torah world will be able to pay their respects to Rabbi Chaim Z’tsl
