During his first State of the Union address, President Biden spoke at length of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and called for actions against Russian oligarchs. He said, “We are coming for your ill-begotten gains. We are joining with our European allies to find and seize your yachts, your luxury apartments, your private jets.”

Now, it has been reported by the New York Post that Russian oligarchs (the richest rulers of the nation) are now in a state of panic and are taking their superyachts to such places as the Maldives and Seychelles.

Bloomberg News reported that an increasing number of superyachts owned by Russian tycoons have set sail to the Indian Ocean, as they cruise around the ultra-luxurious Maldives islands as well as Seychelles. The Maldives are known for their expensive water villas and posh surroundings.

The web site, Superyachtfan.com reported that currently, the four biggest yachts in the Maldives are owned by Russian oligarchs. The report also indicated that the largest yacht in that area of the world is the 459-foot Ocean Victory which is owned by steel magnate, Victor Rashnikov.

Forbes Magazine reported that on Wednesday, German authorities seized a 500-foot superyacht known as the Dilbar that is owned by Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov. It is estimated to be worth $600 million and was seized in the port of Hamburg in northern Germany. The magazine reported that it is part of the package of sanctions against the Kremlin and its supporters.

The Post reported that yet another yacht is leaving from Sri Lanka for the Maldives that is owned by yet another Russian billionaire. The report indicated that yacht owner Oleg Deripaska was one of seven Russian oligarchs who was sanctioned by the Treasury Department in 2018. His yacht is called “Clio” and it is a 238 foot vessel.

The Post also reported that according to Marine Traffic data the president of the Russian based company Lukoil, Vagit Alekperov is reportedly “sailing his yacht Galactica Super Nova from Barcelona to Montenegro.”

The vessel reportedly features a “a 6-meter glass-bottom swimming pool with a waterfall. And a touch-and-go helipad, an elevator, and a large beach club,” according to the Post report.

Steel billionaire Alexei Mordashov has sailed his megayacht to Seychelles from the Maldives.  The yacht known as Nord is 465 feet  And sailing into the Maldives from Turkey is the yacht known as Sea Rhapsody, owned by Russian banker Andrey Kostin.
