Adams Calls NYC a “Laughing Stock” Due to Crime Surge; Tells Cops He is a “Wartime General” in Fight to Reclaim City

Edited by: TJVNews.com

As violent crime in the Big Apple continues to catapult as it is often a daily occurrence in the city, it was reported by the New York Post on Sunday that Mayor Eric Adams said New York City has become “a laughingstock” as it struggles to quell the growing crime numbers as well as rampant homelessness. He said that the battle on crime requires a “wartime general” and claimed that he is that person and is up to the job.

The Post reported that Adams said, “There are wartime and peacetime generals. I’m a wartime general,” he said. “I’m going to be on the front line. Those of you in transit, I’m in the subway system at 2, 3 a.m. with you. I’m going to your precincts. I’m going to call you up when you make those arrests. “I’m not sending you to the front line and leaving you there. “I’m going to be at the front line with you. I’m going to lead you into battle.”

The mayor made these remarks at the annual NYPD Holy Name Society communion mass and breakfast at the Midtown Hilton, according to the Post report.

Referencing a pair of recent shootings in Brooklyn, Adams said: “It’s just not OK to leave a daycare center with your baby and hear gunshots or walk across Kings Highway with your 7-year-old and hear shots,”

He also addressed the issue of the significant uptick in minor crimes as well as homelessness as factors that contribute to more serious crimes, the report indicated.

“Anything goes in the city of New York,” Adams said, as was reported by the Post. “The most important city on the globe has become the laughingstock of the globe. And the dysfunctionality of our city has cascaded throughout the entire country. And the audacity that someone comes along and says, ‘I want to be your mayor,’ and simply says, ‘Follow the rules, follow the rules.’

He added that: “It’s called swiping a Metrocard. If you don’t have enough to pay the fare, there’s a process that you can get the help that you deserve. Or if you go into a drugstore, do what my neighbor does — pay for what you want.”

In recent months, the Post reported that homeless people have sought refuge in city subway stations and streets; many of whom are mentally ill and have a propensity towards violence. The report indicated that vagrants in the subways have carried out dozens of random attacks on straphangers and tourists alike and some have led to murder.

In a previous report that was published last week, the Post indicated that there are 2500 “sorely needed units” for the city’s mentally ill homeless population that are currently vacant due to bureaucratic errors. This comes at a time when NYPD officers have been instructed to get them out of the subway system as well as the streets.

As to precisely how he attempts to take on the monumental task of making New York City safer, Adams said he is giving serious consideration to using drones to fight crime, according to the Post report. He also told the 500 police officers in attendance to reclaim the city’s streets. Adams

As a retired NYPD captain, Adams said, “Don’t let anyone break your spirit, tell you that New Yorkers don’t love the men and women of the NYPD. Everywhere I go they say, ‘Protect our police.’ Ignore the noise. Ignore Instagram, social media. Facebook.”

He added: “Ignore all of that because the people of the city are watching. The people of their city want their city back.”

“Let’s acknowledge that the heat is being turned up,” he said. “We want to turn it down so we don’t watch our city boil to death.” He used this as a comparison to a high school science project that saw a frog in boiling water.
