Now that we are turning the corner on the dreadful Covid virus that put out collective lives on hold, it appears that singles in the New York City area and beyond are ready to “get back out there” on the dating scene. In order to refresh their profiles or even create new ones for the various dating apps in cyberspace, they are seeking the assistance of one particular matchmaker who has a stellar track record in the Cupid department.
According to a report in the New York Post, 37 year old Maria Avgitidis is the go-to person for dating app success. This relationship guru has 55,000 followers on TikTok and is based in New York. She has not only established herself as the queen of dating-profile critiques but to date, 4000 singles have sent their profiles to her company (Agape Match) for he[p. The Post reported that she currently has a waiting list of around 200 people and who pay her as much as $200 for her dating know how.
Speaking of her clients, Avgitidis told the Post: “They’re seeking ways to optimize their profile for the person they’re hoping to attract I also point out things that help repel people you’re just not interested in meeting.”
Also speaking to the Post was 36-year-old Shara Seigel, a public relations professional from the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Seeking assistance with her dating profile on Hinge, she turned to Avgitidis for her advice and guidance.
“I just feel like I’m meeting quantity over quality. I’m finding it challenging to meet people who are in the same place in life as me. As I’m getting older, I’m finding people who are divorced and have kids already and maybe aren’t looking to do that again,” she said of the dates she’s been having.
Avgitidis offers her clients some sagacious advice in order to spruce up their dating profiles. She suggests that a person’s first photo should be the best shot of them; highlighting their looks and appears. She said that in general, women tend to look at several photos before choosing to swipe left or right whilst men often only glance at the first image before swiping left or right, according to the Post report.
She noted that, “Then when they get matches, they’ll look over the photos. She added that it is imperative to present an excellent first image that has broad appeal.
Avgitidis also warned against selfies that are dark or taken in dim lighting. She told Seigel to change her first photo as it was too dim. The photo was taken at an outdoor restaurant but needed better lighting.
She also suggested that Seigel use a photo in which she wore a vibrant floral dress as it would attract men. She added that what makes a profile more appealing is a colorful backdrop. Avgitidis told the Post: “If you see a bright mural or poster, stand in front of it. Ask someone to take a photo of you. This way it doesn’t look staged, and it looks like ‘Hey, you were walking with a friend in the West Village — cool!’ ”
Avgitidis suggested that photos being used on profiles represent an honest reflection of your looks at the moment. Therefore, she warned against using “photos that were taken 15 pounds (or 15 years ago). If you’re lying about your looks, it’s easy for someone to wonder what else you’re lying about.”
She also told Seigel to avoid using cliches and try to be original in describing your interests. She said bullet points are preferable over full sentences.
