British-Israeli Composer Chosen to Do Commissioned Pieces of Music for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee

As Queen Elizabeth II celebrates the beginning of her Platinum Jubilee year marking seven decades on the throne, the long reigning British monarch will enjoy specially commissioned royal pieces of music in her honor.
As it turns out, a citizen of the United Kingdom who had immigrated to Israel about 10 years ago was chosen for this distinct honor.
Loretta Kay-Feld, 73, an accomplished composer, author and lyricist told the BBC that she was privately contacted by a member of the Royal Family “close to the Queen” with what was a personal request.
The BBC reported indicated that the royal, who was familiar with Kay-Feld’s work contacted her with the music composition request about six months ago.
Speaking from her home in Raanana, which is north of Tel Aviv, Kay Feld told the BBC, “They asked me what music could I do for Her Majesty to celebrate her 70 years on the throne. I’m very fond of the Queen and I was absolutely thrilled to be asked, and I went about thinking how could I express her feelings of a life devoted to service to her people.”
The BBC reported that after taking a long walk near the sea to gain inspiration, Kay-Feld said, “Suddenly, the whole soliloquy just came to me, which is usually what happens – I take it from the air and it just comes to me, the lyrics and followed almost simultaneously by the music. It was all in my head, then I just came home and wrote them out.”
Kay-Feld worked with award-winning Irish film director Jason Figgis, who put the scores – 70 Years a Queen and The Queen’s Soliloquy – to video, as was reported by the BBC.
Mr. Figgis said he wanted to “rise to the challenge of creating beautiful, resonant and emotive visuals to help celebrate Her Majesty, the Queen’s, Platinum Jubilee”.
The result, he said, was a “marriage of beautiful composition – aurally and visually and I am very proud of this collaboration,” as was reported by the BBC.
The BBC reported that Kay-Feld has performed for the royal family early in her career, at the Variety Club for Great Britain children’s charity.
Born in London, Kay-Feld studied at the Royal College and Guildhall School of Music, according to the BBC report.
She has written hundreds of compositions, including music for children’s TV show Sesame Street. One of her arrangements, “Gotta Keep America Singing,” was played at the inaugurations of presidents Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, according to the BBC.
