Seems like the world’s richest man is now taking aim at CNN. The beleaguered cable news network has seen its fair share of problems as of late concerning the dismissal of talk show host Chris Cuomo, allegations against host Don Lemon for sexually inappropriate behavior and the termination of John Griffin, a producer on the Cuomo show on pedophilia accusations.
Now, Elon Musk, of Tesla fame, has weighed in on the current situation at the network. The New York Post reported that during a 90-minute interview in podcast form with the satirical website The Babylon Bee, the co-host Ethan Nicolle admitted he felt “unqualified to be interviewing” him.
“You could be on CNN right now. A real news organization,” co-host Kyle Mann told Musk.
Musk raised an eyebrow and laughed in an exaggerated fashion at the description of the network that Mann offered. “Unfortunately, I’m not perverted enough, I guess,” the Tesla mogul joked.
Musk was referring to a headline that The Babylon Bee posted about the scandal ridden news network. The website joked that the human resources team at CNN was now including a question on job applications for future employees that queried as to whether they were “creepy perverts.”
Longtime CNN host Chris Cuomo was fired due to allegations of impropriety when a former new colleague accused him of sexual misconduct. An outside law firm examined documents provided by the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office that suggested the younger Cuomo was more involved trying to control damage to his brother’s political career than he previously said, according to the Post report.
Another lawsuit was filed against CNN’s Don Lemon, who had been accused of sexual misconduct by a man at a bar in Sag Harbor, Long Island in the Hamptons. For his part, Lemon has denied the charges.
If that were not enough for the network to bear, it was also reported that CNN terminated the employment of John Griffin, a former producer of Chris Cuomo’s program. Allegations emerged that Griffin spoke of enticing young girls to his home for training in “sexual subservience.”.
The Post reported that Griffin, a 44 year old father of three girls, worked closely with Cuomo on the program. He had also been indicted in Vermont by a federal grand jury for attempting to “induce minors to engage in unlawful sexual activity,” as was reported by the Post.
As to Musk, on December 13th, the Associated Press reported that Time Magazine named him as its Person of the Year for 2021. They called him a “clown, genius, edgelord, visionary, industrialist, and showman,” according to the AP report.
Musk, who is also the founder and CEO space exploration company SpaceX, recently passed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as the world’s wealthiest person as the rising price of Tesla pushed his net worth to around $300 billion. He owns about 17% of Tesla’s stock, which recently sold for almost $1,000 each, as was reported by the AP.
Time cited the breadth of Musk’s endeavors, from his founding of SpaceX in 2002, to his hand in the creation of the alternative energy company SolarCity in addition to Tesla, the most valuable car company in the world, as was reported by the AP. The magazine emphasizes that its annual acknowledgement is not an award, but rather, “recognition of the person who had the most influence on the events of the year, for good or for ill.”
The magazine also noted the sway Musk holds over an army of loyal followers (and investors) on social media, where he skewers the powerful and also regulators attempting to keep in check an executive that is far from traditional. The AP reported that before his 66 million followers on Twitter, he offers outlandish assistance to the world and drives even his own followers and investors mad by roiling markets.
