Media Peers Urge Firing of CNN’s Chris Cuomo After Revelations He Used Media Sources to Snoop on Brother’s Accusers

Colleagues of CNN’s Chris Cuomo are urging his network to fire him after ​revelations he used his media sources to dig up dirt on women lodging sexual harassment allegations against his brother, former NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).

On Monday, text messages revealed by the New York Attorney General’s office showed Chris closely coordinated with his brother’s top aide Melissa DeRosa during the scandal, working to help steer his brother’s defense by drafting statements and gaining intel on the various accusers, independent writer Adam Salazar reported.

Disclosures of the network anchor’s shady behind-the-scenes antics prompted fellow reporters to complain that Cuomo’s unethical actions deserved an ouster from CNN.

“If this story is accurate, it describes a series of shocking ethical breaches — fireable offenses at any other news outlet,” tweeted Rolling Stone editor-in-chief Noah Schachtman.

The sentiment was echoed by other lefty MSM journos.

“This is a massive ethical breach. If you work at a news agency like I do, we do, you understand there are just basic things like if you found out that an intern did this they’d be gone a second after these text messages came in. This is an abuse of power,” said New York Times columnist Jane Coaston during an appearance on The View.

“The only reason that Chris Cuomo was able to do any of this, get sources on some of his accusers… you see in these text messages how it is not just Chris Cuomo, to be clear. You see people talking about these accusers like they are just nuisances,” she added.

Independent reporter Andrew Feinberg commented the breach of journalistic ethics “would be a fireable offense in most newsrooms.”

Even The Atlantic came for Cuomo knives out.

Plenty other leftist media colleagues also threw Cuomo under the bus:

“There are good people who work at @CNN,” tweeted former The View co-host Meghan McCain. “What the network is doing to so many hardworking people by continuing to employ @ChrisCuomo is nothing short of ethical malpractice.”

“He is a disgrace to journalism and a national embarrassment who tarnishes every SINGLE person at @CNN.”

“Just to be clear, if anyone else on CNN’s roster did this, they’d not only be fired but blacklisted from journalism period,” tweeted MSNBC columnist Eric M. Garcia.

Texts showed Chris Cuomo extensively communicated with DeRosa, including asking her to “Please let me help with the prep.”

Days after an NYT report on accuser Anna Ruch who claimed Gov. Cuomo attempted to kiss her at a wedding, Cuomo texted DeRosa, “I have a lead on the wedding girl.”

Meanwhile, CNN released a statement Monday indicating they’re looking into the revelations and “seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN over the next several days.”
