There is no doubt that after the recent videos showing the contempt for parents by the Louden County (VA) School Board, applications throughout the country for private schools must have quadrupled. Seriously, would you want your kids attending schools run, administered, staffed and controlled by these lunatics who push Critical Race Theory and LGBTQXYZ crap on kids as young as 4? Not unless you also attend meetings of the “I Hate America and What it Stands For” group located in your local Marxist Reading Room. So, let’s discuss the differences between public and private schools. Not to disappoint you, we’ll admit, right from the outset, that we raise our hands in favor of those educational institutions (schools, of course) that are furthest from the corruption of unions and public, elected officials.
And those are the private ones, those you choose, and for which you pay tuition. But, even public schools are not free. Nothing ever really is. Everyone pays taxes, so all of us, with kids or not, support the public school system. For many who desire their kids to attend schools that bolster religious faith, tuition is considered sort of a contribution or donation to one’s beliefs and a continuance of the family’s heritage. Parents who choose non-religious “private” consider their welcomed input into the schools’ curricula, selection and retention of teaching staff. Because they do not use public funds, private schools are not as restricted in their programs and this gives them the freedom to develop their own paths in teaching the basics. Just the fact that they are independent of “government interference,” is now seen as a major reason why private schools are booming.
Private schools are without a doubt safer than public schools. They are allowed to expel kids and can refuse to admit those with behavioral problems. For instance NYC public schools rules limit the number of times each student can be suspended for disciplinary measures. Never tossed out. Always “welcomed back” ‘til the next infraction. Pity the poor teachers in the city who have to attempt to teach these thugs in training. Imagine the kids who really want to learn, having to struggle to concentrate on classroom activities. You really can’t unless you’ve sat in and experienced the frustrations of teachers and their students who come to school each morning dedicated to teaching and learning. No such situations in private schools.
And let’s not forget the union issue. The two largest teacher unions, the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) are led by highly political agents of the Radical Left and have huge control over the content of the curricula they impart to their students. Both unions donate heavily to Progressives and as such, are heavily political. For instance in the recent Virginia Governor’s race, the AFT and Randi Weingarten, its national president, aired ads for losing candidate, Terry McAuliffe. He lost the race by alienating parents over his remarks: “I’m not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books our and make their own decisions. I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.” His words could have been written by Randi, herself.
Parents have choices to make before their kids approach school age. Private or public. If you want some input into what and how your child is taught and by whom, private is the way to go. If you’re concerned about safety issues, ditto. The old adage, “You get what you pay for,” goes for education as well.
