Mourns the Loss of US Servicemen

Dear Editor:

Agudath Israel of America joins the rest of the nation in mourning the U.S. servicemen and other innocents killed in yesterday’s ruthless and contemptible suicide bombings in Kabul.

Our soldiers died in service to our country and its values — shielding civilians and assisting them to safety, even at the risk of their own lives. They were heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, as they fulfilled their duty to “protect and defend.”

Innocent men, women and children were murdered while trying to flee a repressive regime that will not hesitate to brutally attack, murder and pillage, especially those who have supported and assisted the U.S. mission in Afghanistan.

We pray for a speedy and smooth recovery to the injured. And we pray for calm and peace in Afghanistan, and for safety to those who remain there and to those who wish to leave.

Feeble Minded Withdrawal

Dear Editor:

Never in history has a withdrawal from war been handled so badly or incompetently as the Biden Administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. In addition to the obvious, ALL EQUIPMENT should be demanded to be immediately returned to the United States, and that includes every penny of the $85 billion dollars in cost. If it is not handed back, we should either go in with unequivocal Military force and get it, or at least bomb the hell out of it. Nobody ever thought such stupidity, as this feeble-brained withdrawal, was possible!

Israel Prepares for New School Year

Dear Editor:

On Monday, August 30th, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett held a discussion on preparations for the opening of the school year. The Education Minister, the Health Minister, the Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Director General of the Health Ministry, the Director General of the Education Ministry, the Chairman of the Federation of Local Authorities, the Deputy Attorney General, the Defense Minister’s assistant on structural reinforcement and other professionals also participated in the discussion.

At the start of the discussion, Prime Minister Bennett said that the school year would open this on Wednesday, September 1st, as planned.

The Prime Minister made the following decisions during the discussion:

1. The use of rapid corona tests will be widespread.
2. The ‘Green Pass’ plan will be applied to education system employees, even as it is applied to other sectors in the economy as well. Non-vaccinated employees will be required to show results of negative coronavirus tests – to be carried out at the rapid testing sites throughout the country – twice a week.
3. Upon the start of the school year this Wednesday (1 September 2021), cases in which the proportion of pupils who have received the first dose of the vaccine is lower than 70% will learn online.

It should be emphasized that the first inoculation in and of itself will not provide a ‘Green Pass’ that is required for other places and activities.

4. Effective Thursday, 30 September 2021, two doses of the vaccine will be required for the foregoing plan (item 3 above).
5. During September, pupils who are learning online will be encouraged to be vaccinated at school in order for the class to move to frontal learning.

* Items 3-5 above will apply to grades 8-12, in red cities only.

The ministerial committee on fighting the coronavirus (the Corona Cabinet) convened on Monday evening.

US Military Hardware Left for Taliban

Dear Editor:

Not even Biden’s direct critics could have predicted that he would provide the Taliban with around 350 state-of-the-art military helicopters, thus making it the owner of the world’s fourth-largest military helicopter fleet. It is now ahead of any NATO country aside from the USA, and behind only Russia and China. Indeed, the Taliban now has three times as many attack helicopters as the UK. Biden also threw in a few dozen light attack aircraft, thousands of armored personnel carriers, fifty-five battle tanks, a thousand mortars and 110,000 automatic rifles, plus four Hercules transports for good luck: not so much Lend-Lease as Wander-Squander.

Saving the Women of Afghanistan

Dear Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to address the issue of Afghan women, especially feminists who have fought for the rights of girls and women in the war torn country. Recently, it has come to my attention that a courageous group of Western feminists have worked around the lock for weeks in their feverish attempts to secure the freedom of women in Afghanistan.

In a recent article titled, “Team of Radical Feminists Rescues Thirty Afghan Women,” Middle East expert, veteran feminist activist, author and speaker, Phyllis Chesler wrote of her experiences in securing the release of these women.

She writes: “These Afghan feminists are heroic, fearless, and are fighting for universal feminist values. Some are still in hiding in Afghanistan, others are at the airport in Kabul, some are in the air. The lucky ones are in overcrowded temporary camps in the Middle East, or dispersed throughout Europe. They rely on us because they have no one else left.”

One woman in particular contacted Professor Chesler to seek her help in getting out of Afghanistan. Thankfully, Dr. Chesler was successful.

She writes: “In the midst of all the horror, “my” Woman in Kabul, “Aisha,” got out less than 24 hours before the suicide bombings. Escorted by her father, a former Afghan military man, accompanied by two younger siblings, and armed with specific instructions from a crucial member of our team, Aisha made her way through the heaving, surging, desperate crowds, past every single heart-stopping Taliban checkpoint, endured beating and cursing, and presented herself at a gate that belonged to a particular European country. They then had to wait for at least a day outside the airport. Tragically, en route, her mother became ill and was forced to turn back. “Aisha” then spent two more days, sitting on the ground within the airport, followed by many hours in a military plane on the tarmac waiting to take off for the Middle East and then to Europe.”

Dr. Chesler and the others who worked with her deserve our plaudits for their tireless efforts.
