Gov Ron DeSantis Is Right to Defy School Mask Mandates as He Leads Florida as a “Straight Shooter”

Just what is it about Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis that has the mainstream media lemmings frothing at the mouth and scrambling around looking for skeletons in his closet? It’s no secret. Any unbiased observer, scrutinizing his leadership, concern for his citizens and his professionalism in successfully dealing with the Chinese Virus crisis, during his term in office, will tell you: “He’s a straight shooter.” He doesn’t play political games and many Floridians, both young and old, are alive today because of the decisions he’s made as their governor.” DeSantis’s experience while serving with a Navy Seal Team in Iraq and earning a Bronze Star for heroism and his tenure as a Congressman has served him well as a fearless leader and has him now as a major contender for the Republican nomination for President in 2024.

DeSantis had the chutzpah to go against the wavering “professional” advice from the medical maven, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has been all over the place with his calls first against, and later for face-masks, keeping kids out of school for over a year and with his dictates to keep businesses closed until he sees fit to raise the checkered flag for them to re-open. Thoughtfully, DeSantis has pushed for schools in the state to reopen quicker than most other states and without useless mask mandates. He is successfully pursuing the therapeutic modality to prevent the virus from spreading and is getting sufficient amounts of monoclonal antibodies to those who choose to have it, rather than coercing people to take a vaccine that they may be wary of.

Although the insufferably liberal media and opposing politicians were furious at his joining Trump’s skepticism of the efficacy of mask wearing, he has saved the lives of so very many in such a short period of time.

There are not many Floridians packing up to relocate to New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Illinois. Rather, the numbers of those living in states run by DeSantis’ opponents are flocking to Florida as they know that safely run states that offer lower taxes, better schooling for their kids and warmer climates. It’s time that people start looking, not at the political affiliations of politicians at election time, but the performance and outlook of those running for office.

For example, a few months ago, DeSantis delivered a passionate address to over 300 people at the Shul of Bal Harbour on Collins Avenue in the Surfside section of Miami. The governor took the opportunity to sign into law two bills of particular importance to the South Florida Jewish community. One of the bills grants official state authorization for the Hatzolah South Florida branch to operate as an official private ambulance service.

Hatzolah is a Jewish-led emergency medical services volunteer network that is part of a larger EMT organization with branches across the nation and in Israel. The new law, known as HB 805, grants authorization for the use of sirens and red lights on privately owned vehicles of volunteer staff in groups like Hatzalah. This allows for faster response time and transportation of patients to hospitals, according to the bill’s proponents.

The second bill that Governor DeSantis signed into law that would require public schools in Florida to hold at least one minute of silence to allow students to meditate or pray. The bill known as HB 529 directs the principal of each public school to require teachers in first-period classrooms in all grades to set aside 1 to 2 minutes daily for a moment of silence to allow students to meditate or pray. During these moments, students may not interfere with other students’ participation. This is an expansion of current law which only “encourages” a moment of “silent prayer.” The new law also provides that it is incumbent upon teachers to encourage parents to discuss the moment of silence with their children and to make suggestions as to the best use of this time. Teachers may not make suggestions as to the nature of any reflection that a student may engage in during the moment of silence.

As the most decidedly pro-Israel governor in America, Governor DeSantis also highlighted initiatives included in the Florida Leads Budget to support Florida’s Jewish community and Israel, including:

$4 million in security funding for Florida’s Jewish Day Schools, including for the first time ever funding for professional security

$1.35 million for the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg

$400,000 for the Holocaust Memorial in Miami Beach

$100,000 for the Holocaust Task Force

$250,000 for the Florida-Israel Business Accelerator

$1 million in recurring funds for collaborative research, development, and commercialization of projects related to aerospace and other technology through a memorandum of understanding which Space Florida has entered into with Israel

On a final note, we must ask what other politicos have done to effectively serve the people of Florida. What have they actually done? Not what they promise to do. Who are their backers? If guys like George Soros are shelling out their dough to put their favorites in office, watch out! Be wary of the political Royal Families such as the Bushes, the Clintons and Cuomos who tend to act as if leadership is their birthright, not something one learns through experience and insight. We believe that Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis is such an individual and we wish him well in the future. If we were in the baseball business, and he were a free agent, we’d be offering him a home in the Big Apple. He’s a rising star in the sport of politics and we know that what he will offer in the future will ensure that Florida succeeds in all that it puts its hand to.
