George Soros’ former longtime money manager, right-hand-man and friend, Howard Rubin, has finally sold his Hamptons home. As reported by the NY Post, the Watermill home just sold for $9.5 million, while Rubin is embroiled in a sex scandal.
The six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathroom home was initially listed for nearly $15 million, but underwent a $5.4 million price cut, before finding a buyer. Located in Mecox Bay, the property is nestled on 2.14 acres and includes a dock on the bay, and expansive lawn and a long driveway lined with cherry trees for privacy, as per the listing. The home features a waterside pool and a tennis court, and is fully furnished. Rubin, 66, had first purchased the home in 1995 for $1.26 million. It has been on and off the market since 2018.
Rubin, the former portfolio manager for an investment fund founded by financier Soros, has been married to wife, Mary Henry, for 35 years. The two have been living in two separate New York City condos of late. Last month, she filed for a divorce. Since then, Rubin has been trying to unload his real estate holdings, including his Long Island estate, probably to fund his legal fees.
Rubin, whose high-value transactions were featured in the best-selling books “Liars Poker” and “The Big Short,” is entangled in a number of other lawsuits, with several women alleging graphic sexual assault. In 2017, he was accused of sexually abusing and raping women in a secret Manhattan penthouse rental, according to a suit. The $8 million penthouse reportedly held a room, now known as the “sex dungeon,” which was equipped with ropes, toys, electrocuting devices and other shady implements.
Six women have filed an $18 million Brooklyn federal suit, accusing Rubin of rape and allegedly beating them to the point where they needed extensive medical attention, as per court filings.
The “Bondage Banker” took the women to a side room in the penthouse, where he allegedly gagged, tied up and even punched the plaintiffs, as per the suit filed by civil lawyer John Balestriere.
Rubin was supposed to stand trial for the lawsuit in March 2020, but it was postponed due to the pandemic until November 2021. One of the plaintiffs has since settled her claims against Rubin, and has signed a document stating their 2015 encounter was consensual.
