The sexual harassment scandal engulfing Gov. Andrew Cuomo has not just affected him and his job. His brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo is also under fire.
As reported by Page Six, Chris Cuomo has been keeping a low profile and trying to stay out of the limelight. Chris and his wife Cristina Greevan Cuomo are longtime Hamptons socialites, frequently spotted out and about. But, since his brother’s resignation, Chris’ wife has been seen alone, while Chris has been missing in action. Chris has been embroiled in an ethical debate between his family and his job as a journalist.
A source for the Post said that on Friday Cristina was out at trendy restaurant Calissa in Watermill, without Chris but “with four girlfriends, ordering a bottle of vodka and watching Questlove DJ.” “She is always out and about — she runs Purist,” said the source, referring to her wellness publication.
Last week, Gov. Cuomo announced his resignation amid the sexual misconduct scandal in which attorney general Letitia James’ investigation found that he has sexually harassed or otherwise mistreated 11 women. The governor, who has been denying any wrongdoing, said he took “full responsibility” for his actions, but noted “generational differences” and claimed he never touched anyone inappropriately. “In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone,” he added.
As per the Post, Chris, the “Cuomo Prime Time” anchor, has also come under fire after admitting that he gave his brother and their team strategic advice in navigating the predicament, even though his media job requires him to be unbiased. Chris has apologized on his show for advising his older brother. “It will not happen again,” Chris said. “It was a mistake.”
“I can be objective on just about any topic but not about my family,” Chris added. “Like you, I bet, my family means everything to me and I’m fiercely loyal to them,” he said. “Family first, job second.” He added, “I know where the line is. I can respect it and still be there for my family, which I must.”
The line also seemed to have blurred for him at the pandemic’s peak, when the governor was being lauded as a hero. Chris had seemingly used his family ties to get the governor on his show regularly. That ready audience seemed to quickly evaporate though, as the NY nursing home COVID-19 scandal began to emerge.
Chris has not been on the air since his brother’s resignation, going on what he said was a previously scheduled break. Chris is slated to return on air on Monday for the first time.
